Ack wrote:The Call of Cthulhu - This one is a silent film, shot in the style of its setting(early 1920s) but entirely based on the The Call of Cthulhu short story by HP Lovecraft. It's very low budget, and the style may throw off a lot of viewers, but this film is well worth watching if you love early 20th century horror, weird fiction, or Lovecraftian takes on the supernatural.
I tried this one, but the fact it was shot in digital really did not sit well with me. Perhaps, I will give it anothe rshot based on your recommendation.

Also, I thought Cabin in the Woods was only OK...<runs and hides>

Nice recommendations!

I've seen several you guys listed: Cabin in the Woods (loved it), Saw, The Ring, REC, High Tension, Cabin Fever (PANCAKES!), Zombieland, & Triangle (man squid, triangle was terrible lol), VHS

You reminded me that I've wanted to see The Decent since it came out :)

Also, for some reason I dig werewolves... Ginger Snaps is high on my list now.

Any1 see VHS 2? The first one was interesting.

Need to go back & read Dave's thread now!

Haha! I liked it! But mostly I have low expectations for the horror genre these days. Anything that even slightly breaks the mould of a bunch of teens get hacked up... I'm kinda into. Also Melissa George. And what happens to the character Sally. And Melissa George, man.

I don't know, I'm kind of with you on this one. I was definitely entertained by it, but at the same time I have a hard time getting into a movie that is so occupied with subverting or playing with conventions/tropes of its respective genre. I can see where the creators might have been "oh won't this be clever." I don't know. I only saw it once. I just felt like I was being kept aware through a lot of it that this is definitely a movie . I want to lose that consciousness. Probably why I watch so many films. I don't want the characters to be avatars, I want them to be people.

The first 2 segments of V/H/S 2 are total garbage, but the second two alone surpass the first movie. Both of 'em are so legitimately scary.

Doomsday
I Dog Soldiers and The Decent both mentioned, but this is my FAVORITE Neil Marshall film.
