Frown: Wake up this morning to an email from a company trying to hire me for a job in Maryland despite my stated unwillingness to move to Maryland. This happens about once a week.

Smile: Finished the afternoon up with an actual and (hopefully honest) email from the HR office of a company with a ton of jobs here in town, all of which I am more than qualified for. Mood = much better now, thank you.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Smile: Lots of cool things professionally today. I at long last got some feedback from my publisher about the first draft of my book (there's some expected work still to do, but the comments were very positive about the draft and it is getting close to done!), I had some nice feedback from unexpected sources about my recent essay in a new open-access Game Studies journal, and I was approached by an editor at my favorite academic journal to write a long form review essay of a few books I wanted to read anyway.

Frown: I can't shake an irritating cough and the sniffles, and the whole family has been home sick this week. Fucking winter needs to just end.

All of that is great stuff Dish. Keep blazing that trail.

Don't take cough syrup, some weird guys called "scientists" say it doesn't work.

edit* Smiles: My cousin is opening for Dave Attell, for three straight days. For those who aren't familiar with the actor and comedian, he has a cerebral observational style of humor mixed with a tad of stoner references. He can be a bit "comedy central roast" unfunny, but his stand up is nothing short of hilarious.

MrPopo wrote:I'd be very curious to find out how have 30+ systems. Are those distinct, or are there dupes (i.e. Genesis model 1, 2, 3). Here's my setup that puts 19 systems + my PC into my TV:

SNES, N64, PS1, PS2 all S-video out into A/V switch 1
Genesis, Turbografx, 3DO, Saturn composite/S-video (first two/last two) into A/V switch 2
A/V switch 1 & 2 & Dreamcast PC out into X-RGB3
Neo Geo AES (modded), Xbox, Gamecube, Wii, Xbox 360 (JP) into Component switch

X-RGB3 into TV PC in
Component switch into TV Component in
PC into HDMI 1
Xbox 360 into HDMI 2
PS3 into HDMI 3
Wii U, PS4, Xbox One into auto-switching HDMI switch into HDMI 4
Wow, that's nice. Can the Harmony control all of the switches? If so, I need some links to where you got those...

I get to 30ish by being a massive hardware nut :) Though to be fair, a few of them are handhelds. If you're curious...

List of (distinct) systems and what I currently have them at for video:
Atari 2600 S-video
Atari 5200 S-video
Atari 7800 S-video
Atari Jaguar (with JagCD) S-video -- once I fix the cord

NES Composite
Famicom Composite
SNES S-video
N64 S-video
Gamecube (with Gameboy Player) S-video
Wii Component

SMS Composite
Genesis (with SegaCD + 32x) S-video
Saturn Composite
Dreamcast Composite

PS1 Composite
PS2 Component
PS3 HDMI

Neo Geo AES Component
Neo Geo CD Component

TurboGrafx16 (with TurboCD) Component

Colecovision Component

Intellivision Composite

ChannelF RF

Xbox Component
360 HDMI

3DO FZ-10 S-video

Odyssey2 RF

CDi 450 Composite
So not counting dupes, not counting handhelds (or other systems that don't use a TV -- I'm looking at you, Vectrex) at all, and bundling the CD addons as part of their original systems, I'm at 28. Add on the handhelds and the oddities like the Vectrex, takes me to 40, again without dupes or counting addon systems seperately. And I haven't touched 8th gen systems yet.

But all in all, I'm definitely jealous of your switching setup, I might have to look into something like that.

A/V switch: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6815158136
Component switch:
HDMI switch:

And yes, my Harmony One can control all the switches (as well as my X-RGB). Nice thing was they were all in the database; I didn't have to do anything involving learning.

Book. Freaking. Marked. I'm a little light on cash right now, but those are some awesome freaking switches. I know I'd want to install a couple surge protectors and cut power entirely when I wasn't playing them just because of the standby power drain adding up over time, but damn those are nice. Thanks.

 We're gonna have to leave the motel in a few days since they're expanding their renovations, which are part of their plan to turn the Travelodge into the Maingate Resort and Spa, and everyone's gonna have to leave. We don't know where we're gonna go yet, though obviously it's gonna be another motel since we can't move into a place yet. I've also told my family that I won't sign a lease down here and to worry only about finding a place for themselves.

@ Repo, not familar with your entire set up/circumstances, but have you searched for extended stay hotels? When I had to work out in West Texas for a few months, I stayed in a Value Place for less than $200 a week with a kitchenette. No lease, pay weekly, but they won't take the room out from under you. Not a bad deal, management was nice also.

That actually kinda sounds like what we have, though our "kitchenette" is basically just fridge and microwave, along with a sink (that doubles as the bathroom sink) and a cupboard.

But it's also a matter of money, since my brother's still unemployed (his lost his job at Buffalo Wild Wings a few weeks ago and hasn't found anything since) and I just started getting hours at work. So basically our financial situation (which also includes our storage unit and payments on the van, but not the cell phone bills which can't be payed off yet) limits our options.

I'm just praying things work out, since it was really just sheer dumb luck that got us this far.
