Recommended Pc-Engine Tg-16 games. Exclusive. non shmup

Post by Thermoptic »

I just got my hands on a region modded PC-Engine Duo-R and im very excited to get some good games for this lovely console but its really really tough to find any interesting games!

Could you help me and recommend some good games? Sorry I dont like shmup games so please remove those :) Also i would only like exclusive games that only where released on the Tg-16/Pce. Either Hu Card or Cd.

Simple budgets games are welcome too as it seems that many Nec games are really expensive.

Thanks!

Here is a photo of the system i got :)

Try the Densetsu no Valkyrie remix. The original version is an arcade game with a port to PS1, but the levels are different in the PC Engine version.

If you like action puzzle games, there's an original title on the system called Splash Lake, where you have to crack tiles with your beak to sink sections of the playing field and also the enemies on the board. All the Bonk (PC Genjin) titles are great fun. Try our intro articles here at Racketboy for game ideas as well.

Mysterious Song is a homebrew RPG that may be up your alley. Akumajou no Dracula X is a definite must, and I prefer the Ys series on PCECD as well.

Rondo of Blood (although this version is unlockable on PSP remake).

Most don't know Castlevania Symphony of the Night is a Rondo sequel. You'll see the similarities.

Go to YouTube and check out Spida1 and ItsCoolFromSaturn. Those two channels will have you dropping cash on games :D

Thanks for all your recommendations!

Its a nice system but i really feel that i lacks good games. Its much easier finding good games for the Megadrive and Snes that it is for the TG16/PCE. Im not saying its a bad system, its just tough finding many good games.

By my count (and it's probably on the lower end of the scale due to my unfamiliarity with the system), there are 59 good to excellent games on the PC Engine, although admittedly only 18 more for PC Engine CD, but it's true that number is brought down significantly if you don't like shmups. There's at least 30 or so good games for it, though, that aren't shmups.

I came here to say Splash Lake and Bonk. Good job.
