Crystalis made it to your list as an Action RPG on the NES, did it not? I would have played that with you all, but I've completed it already. I am aware of the GBC port but even that was not as good from what I understand, and they did a lot of tweaking to the story and such, right?

Yes, correct. Though not sure how different the GBC port is from the NES original.

The GBC port has a much smaller screen area (harder to see enemies, especially ones that shoot projectiles) and it no longer has enemies that are immune to a sword, but there is still weakness/resistance to a sword and no indication that a particular sword is better/worse other than how many hits it takes. So many times you will find yourself beating on enemies for ages before realizing that another sword would be better. Finally, there are some changes to the end game, including shuffling around some of the endgame bosses to be in different places (storyline wise).

Here's a quick look at some classic action-RPGs for those still trying to decide their pick.

Hey now, I have a NES! It just doesn't work right now...

Anyway, glad to see some of the titles I mentioned are getting represented.

Based on stuff I need to beat, I would like to nominate Tactics Ogre as an SRPG option.

What about one of the Shin Megami Tensei games? I'm assuming PS2 era might be retro enough and I DON'T KNOW if that's right. But it's a major series in the world of JRPGs and I know *I've* at least never played any of them?

As far as games I'd be interested in (some of which have already been suggested):

Western RPG:
Anachronox
Fallout

JRPG:
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
SMT: Persona
Tales of Phantasia

Action RPG:
Faxanadu
The Magic of Scheherazade

SRPG:
Arc the Lad
Growlanser II

But as always I tend to float around the periphery of the Together clubs more than committing to playing everything?

I like Opa's idea. Look at how long it takes to beat each game & take into consideration. You would need only a month to beat many, a longer for others lol.

I think I may borrow from the shmup club and have a group nominate some games and I choose. Ack nudged me this way and it seems to be the least amount of hassle.

I also think we had a lot vote who didnt participate which may have prevented active members from playing their game of choice.

Before I go and choose, any who actively participate care to volunteer to be apart of this selection group?
