I think any of Treasure's games are a prime candidate. Also, Galactic Attack looks pretty nice with the color change effect for the secondary lasers. Astal looks absolutely fantastic as well. There's a reason why it's been described as a painting in motion. ;) On the topic of Sega platformers, Super Tempo continues the series trend of delivering colorful, cartoony visuals.

The Capcom VS or Alpha SF series' on the Saturn should be consider graphical masterpieces. For their time they really stood head and shoulders above the competition and came damn close to arcade perfect. For 3D graphics i'd say Nights into Dreams as it is still pretty even by today's standard. Most other 3D games on the saturn are rather 'muddy' and 'grainy' for the most part. Honorable 2D mentions should include Astal and Rayman bc their art styles still have 'panache' and by todays standard could probably still be top of the line mobile games.

IMHO it takes absolutely fantastic art style for the time to carry a game over the years and beyond generations.

It's funny, because the Saturn's best 3D games were great because of distinct art style, not 3D capabilities, and unique or otherwise compelling gameplay. But the 2D games were really the ones that tended to hit all the notes.

3D: Sega Rally, Powerslave, Quake, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Deep Fear

RE & TR are much closer to their PSX counterparts than most think or recall. Laura also moves more fluid on SS.

2D: take your pick lol...

I wouldn't exactly call it ground breaking by any means but I always found Galactic Attack's graphics to be pretty stellar.

That's what I think is the greatest thing about a console like the Saturn IMO... the 2D games for it, which is basically like the logical step-up in terms of graphics from the 16-bit to the 32-bit era if 3D wasn't a factor.

Too bad more companies didn't focus on making more 2D hand-drawn games like those two at the time. Also, playing Rayman or Astal on an iPhone... bleh. One nice Saturn controller and CRT please. 8)
