What RPG are you playing right now?

it can get lonely sometimes if you look at it that way, especially after playing a MMORPG.

I'm playing Albert Odyssey on the Saturn now..almost finished...the dialogue is funny but it's about as standard of an rpg as it gets..its too easy and there is nothing really impressive about it

First one. I was enjoying it. Just didn't want to juggle three RPGs lol. Hands full with FF1 & Tales.Jmustang1968 wrote: Dark Alliance 1 or 2?

I started playing Persona 4 Golden and my god is it sluggishly paced. It's been like an hour of story sequences since I last saved. I've played the game for like two or three hours it feels like and the whole game has been nothing but story sequences.
Boring.
Say what you will about Final Fantasy games but at least they have good pacing

Final Fantasy XII did it first, and better. Xenoblade just copied that game's formula.Zing wrote:I have always felt that Xenoblade was essentially a single-player MMORPG.Menegrothx wrote:How come there aren't any singleplayer RPGs that use MMORPG style skills and UI?

Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
Xenoblade did not copy FFXII. They have their similarities, but XII was hardley unique in itself. If Xenoblade copied anything, it would be an MMO.
I also don't see how FFXII did the MMO-feel better. FFXII high-end combat comes down to casting reverse on a dude, and beating with a sword. (Oh, and maybe some shell to prevent insta-death, if you want to have a better chance at living/worse chance at sticking Reverse on your dudes). It feels like playing a Final Fantasy game, not an MMO.
Xenoblade forces you to play the game like an MMO. You have to worry about aggro, character placement (Side AND behind attacks, even some MMOs don't do this), limited UI space to set skills, and character interaction in battle (although in a very different way, since its not an online game). There is a massive world, TONS of quests, tons of hidden areas to explore, a variety of classes you can play as if you switch between characters, skill tress, more side missions than main story, etc, etc.
FFXII is a turn based RPG that lets you run around, and has a built-in auto attack. Your character placement affects one thing, which is whether or not you can hit the enemy. Its basically a "row" check, which is just copied from, well, every other FF game. FFXII goes into menus to use abilites, whereas Xeno sticks to the traditional MMO UI. Xenoblade also has you using your skills instantly, with a cool down in place (very MMO), where FFXII has you waiting on your skills via a timer (Not very MMO)
Don't get me wrong, I had a good time with the several-hundred hours I put into FFXII. I would actually love to hear what you think makes it superior to Xenoblade. As it stands, I find Blade to easily be the better "single player MMO" experience, and do not see how it copied the "formula" of FFXII at all.

Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
Nope, both ripped off Diablo. The true king of JRPG MMO'S.
