People in Japan usually rate items a lot better then Americans. They really won't describe things as Mint unless they're unopened and perfect. Stuff often described as good still looks like it was never touched most of the time. Acceptable usually means a little big of age and use wear, but still pretty good. They tend to use 'junk' for beat stuff that works but might have a fair number of tears/stains/some surface rust or for untested stuff. A loose cart looking like that in Japan probably would have been 500 Yen 'junk'.

Shitty seller, but glad you're getting somewhere.

Years ago I bought a phone off ebay that was listed as very good condition (with some poor pictures) and when I got it, it was terrible, screen was scratched to hell and looked like it had been dropped a few times. I filed a claim and was refunded very quickly via paypal, but I still had the phone... I decided to be honest, and shipped it back to the seller on my dime. I still wonder what would have happened if I kept it...
no mention of having to send the cart back, not that I would anyway as he would most certainly deny that he ever received the cart back. I've only had one other instance on ebay where I had to return an item and that was where the seller mixed up my order with another customer. But I worked it out directly with the seller who was super nice and emailed me a shipping label and offered to cover my expenses for the bubble mailer and in the end I got the game I ordered... Wait a second that was you Jay_red!!! props to you :P the way ebay sellers should be.

I've kept stuff before.

Years ago I ordered a WonderSwan Color from an Amazon seller. Got a normal b&w WonderSwan.

Contacted the seller - told them I'd ship it back in exchange for a WonderSwan Color or I'd ship it back for a refund. No response. I had tossed the original envelope it came in so I didn't have the seller's address.

Contacted Amazon. They refunded my money.

Since I never was able to get a return address from the seller I had no option but to keep the WonderSwan. I used the refunded money to get a WonderSwan Color from a more reputable seller. So yeah, essentially I got two handhelds for the price of one.

One of those cases where seller incompetence (sorta) all works out in the end.

at least the cart works, after removing the PCB and giving the pins a serious rubdown with a Qtip and some alcohol. You should of seen my Qtip after the cleaning it was completely black it was disgusting. Also the save battery was dead but I have a good supply of tabbed batteries and soldered in a new one so not a big deal. But I imagine someone without solder skills would of been rather pissed about that since one of the few things in the description was "Tested works great" I guess they left out the doesn't save part >.>

- Seller puts game in system
- After 10 tries, the games boots to the title screen
- Seller shuts off console after 2 seconds
- "Tested works great"

wow I just had a mind blown moment, this is actually my second bad experience with the Breath of Fire 2 game. in the early 2000's probably 2003 I was on vacation in Florida with my parents and on the day we were leaving for home on the way to airport I asked my parents to let me buy a game for the plane ride home, my parents were nice enough to stop on the way at an EB games and I picked out a used copy of BOF 2 on the GBA. When I got to the airport and pulled out my GBA and tried out the game the game would freeze after you named your character, no matter how much I blew on it or cleaned it it would just freeze. Unfortunately the store was all the way back in florida and I'm not sure why I didn't try returning it in wisconsin maybe we didn't have EB games or they were called something else. I actually still have the cart and still have no idea whats up with it.

ninjainspandex wrote:heh funny thing about Amazon is that its a gamble in the other direction in japan. Rancor ordered me a bunch of super famicom carts for me and he just alerted me that Gundam Endless duel that was listed in good condition cart only arrived to him in excellent condition. this has actually happened a number of times on Amazon.jp where used games listed as good come complete and mint and often with bonus swag like soundtracks and strategy guides. It pisses me off to no end when US sellers list cart only games as LIKE NEW, do they even read the guidelines of what LIKE NEW is? I don't care how minty the cart is if it lacks the box and instructions it is not at all LIKE NEW.
I get really upset by the way item conditions are perceived on Ebay and Amazon. Most sellers on those sites are only concerned with selling things, and not with appeasing buyers.

While it's definitely cool that you got more than what you were expecting from Amazon.jp, it's not without its deadbeats. Sellers there take the recourse more seriously, but I've received things that weren't as described there as well: Ordered Capcom vs SNK 2 for DC, and received a CvS2 case and manual with CvS disk (contacted the seller and was told to just keep them after being refunded); ordered "Very Good" condition Azel PD RPG, without any specific details, and received it with weird black, padding stickers under the discs on the disc trays; ordered "Good" condition Magical Taruruto kun with no details other than 'complete,' and received it with sun-faded, torn spine, and broken box (along the spine). I've also received a number of cartridge games with pins so dirty, I'm unsure of how the seller actually got it to load for testing. It can still be pretty hit or miss on Amazon.jp, as well.

Trader.com, though, will often list imperfections on games where I've not noticed anything wrong with them. Love that place.

with how dirty the pins were on that snes game I'm surprised he got it to work at all in his "testing" most likely he didn't test it at all.

Yeah, that was basically what I was implying. :P I think a lot of sellers just prefer to roll the dice.

That's why I don't order from amazon that often. They rarely offer free shipping and I hate buying things based on a rating scale and no picture. That is of course unless its a insanely good deal.
