Dragon Warrior III and IV!
If PSIV was a SNES rpg, where would it rank? Would it make the top 5 for you?

Nah. Even if I look solely at turn-based JRPGs I'd still rank Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, The 7th Saga, Breath of Fire II, and Dragon Quest V ahead of Phantasy Star IV.

That doesn't mean that PSIV is a poor game, of course. As I said, it's quite good. SNES was just an RPG powerhouse.

Level 5 in Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance. Just beat the game's first challenging & long dungeon. Think I'm going to like the hack n slash, grab loot, & level up simplicity.

Ah good old Lucienne's Quest...... One of my most sought-after games... I'll probably never buy it given the price. There is a Japan-only Saturn version, I'll probably break down and get that eventually instead.

(note that despite the 3DO being region-free a Japanese 3DO Lucienne's Quest (Sword & Sorcery) will not work on an American 3DO due to the console being unable to render the kanji properly).

So I started on Lunar 1 (PSX rom), and I have a question for you guys.

If you guys remember the fat character you get at the start (Ramus), does anyone remember anything strange about his leveling? He only seems to level up his HP and for what ever reason the game kinda takes its sweet time loading after he levels up.

Is the rom just glitched or is Ramus a pure HP tank?

He had great HP in the PSP version, I think...

You'll figure out the real reason soon enough.

Just finished Valkyria Chronicles, which I've been playing on and off since the beginning of summer. Super amazing game of course. The ending surprised me, though. The last two fights were surprisingly small in scale, though they were challenging enough. I ended up using a shocktrooper several times in a row to beat the final boss. Won in 3 turns! It was an absurd number of head shots. How anybody wins without the Penetration order is beyond me.

I absolutely love the battles in this game! I've got only two complaints with the gameplay.

-Why can I only duck behind sandbags?
-Why are the enemy soldiers so dumb? There are plenty of battles you would have had no chance at if they had actually stormed your base rather than playing defensively.

Loved the story and everyone in it (except Damon and Borg). I even ended up liking Maximilian. Wish the game had even more wonderful cutscenes. It all seemed too short. Both the story and gameplay could have used another 30 hours to mature. Funny how it was so very subtle about some things and so hamfisted about others.

The last cutscenes before the credits confused me.
WTF Empire? You built a giant doom train, but the security inside was so loose that Faldio was able to dismantle the engine without so much as a handgun? Also, it had only one engine and no backup systems? How could your engineers build this thing and still be so stupid?

WTF Faldio? If you wanted to kill Maximilian, you should have used a gun or a knife or your fist. Or you could have thrown him off the edge in some way that didn't involve getting yourself squashed. If you wanted to commit suicide, do it when your best friend isn't watching! Ugh....

So the first airplane ever built happens to work perfectly - well enough that it can supposedly cross the ocean? And the mechanic who has never flow before is agile enough to catch two falling teenagers?

I thought the devs would go further with the themes they had established before about the meaning of power. It would have been great if Alicia had saved herself and Welkin with her powers and forced Welkin to reexamine his opinion of them. Instead they wound up in a situation where they would've surely died if it wasn't for the improbable airplane rescue, but neither of them even considered cutting her to avoid getting burned to death.
I wanted to hear Selvaria talk more. She has such a beautiful voice and a face to match. Anyone got a good wallpaper? Damn, what a story.
Her death is the only one that hit me hard. I really feel for her. She's got such a good heart and the force of will to see her feelings through. All her hard work and devotion and inevitably pointless sacrifice - you know, because the hero has to win - pissed me off at war and its machinations more than any game ever has. She could have become so great if she were doing something useful with her talents.

When I neared the end, I was hoping Maximilian would get killed early so Squad 7 could comfort her and then unite against some final threat.

If Selvaria's hair turned permanently silver, why didn't Alicia's? That would have been cool.

Definitely been meaning to get that one myself someday. One of my friends showed me it way back when it was new and it looked like an amazingly cool take on the SRPG style with a bit more interaction and stuff. I wonder if the anime holds up? Lol, I've mostly heard disappointments there.

Sucks the sequels jumped to handhelds...
