I will be playing this sometime soon (sitting on my shelf & fighting its way to the top of my backlog).
Can someone give my a quick overview of the DLC. My questions:
- Is it all post-game?
- Any of it free?
- How much do these extra battles cost?
- Add a lot to story?
- Play in order?
- How many available (in US)?
- How many added hours?
- Good reference site detailing this?
I know I'll get addicted & trying to see what type of hole I'm digging Thanks!
- No
- Yes
- 2.50 - 3.00 (6.50 for bundles and they're not all battles. Some is just added story)
- Some of them do, at least in terms of characterization.
- They come in groups of three that should be played in order(6.50), but you can purchase them separately ($2.50 - $3.00)
- Roughly 12 I think, not counting free stuff
- I haven't played them all, so I don't know
A lot of the DLC unlocks stuff like items, classes, recruits, new skills. Some of it is designed for grinding/making money. There's DLC for just about anything you could want. One map is just for masochists wanting an insane challenge

I have yet to download any paid DLC. The game is perfectly fine without extra battles.
Well thats not totally true.
I havent messed with that stuff yet.
Ever since Day one of that release, Nintendo has given users of the game "Freebie Weapons" and Some Free Levels. Levels that I havent figured out how to play. They Showed up in the world map, but I guess I havent found a way to get to them yet. Nintendo also has given Free soldiers. Classic characters that you can use. Along with info on new levels you can purchase. Early in the game those free weapons are unusable since they require a high level to use them.
I havent messed with those bonus characters yet. I have them downloaded but I havent messed with them either. I've been given a whole lot, they're on a special in game level.
All I can tell you is to pop the game into your 3ds so you can get the notifications and downloads. I guess once you put the game, in you'll be given future notifications, and when you start the game go to the DLC content and it jumps to your inventory.
I'm having fun with paring different characters together, who will you marry them off to?

@gamer - thanks! Cleared up a lot & I'll read those links.
@flo - Okay cool. Good to know some of it's free. I typically leave my WiFi off to preserve battery life but I'll leave it on for this one to receive updates. Appreciate it.

Some of the story based DLC is really nice. Some of it has really meaningful dialogues between certain characters if they are married. Two of my favorite pairings have their relationships fleshed out a bit in the DLC. Some of the DLC also reveals things that occurred during the main story line that you wouldn't have known about otherwise. Nothing that is integral to the plot, but certainly adds to it. It's really funny what is revealed about certain characters in DLC as well. Some of it is really fan servicy though, like multiple references to a certain stalkerish dark mage's busty body or pictures of certain characters in bikinis or Japanese outfits. There's a TON of fan service aimed at fans of the series with multiple characters from past games appearing in some battles and then becoming available to recruit. It's my first Fire Emblem game so I didn't know who these people were or what they were babbling on about. To me they were nothing more than more enemies who needed to get their asses kicked by my badass avatar and his wife.
