Are sealed controllers and VMUs common?

Post by SuperSonic7 »

Never really pay too much attention to sealed stuff because its out of my price range. But I notice there are a ton of sealed controllers and VMUs on ebay. Have these been common for years or was their a dump of them recently?

Pretty common as far as i know. Especially the one's with the blue logo on them. Not sure why these are more common sure someone here probably has a idea. When i got back into the DC scene a little over 2 years ago i was a little surprised myself. Im guessing Sega itself didnt know they where going to pull the DC so quick so there was a surplus. You can probably get 2 sealed controller with 2 sealed VMU's for about $50. Since the DC at this point is more of a cult status thing i dont see the inventory drying up soon.

blue swirl is euro and orange swirl is US.

You should google images of them, once you know what they look like you can find them in real life. Boxed or loose.

There are some off brand stuff too that you can keep an eye out for. Some third party controlers are crap though.

If you dont care about condition you can find loose controlers. You dont always have to go ebay route. Check out fleamarkets or yard sales. Look for loose cables in bins and boxes, sometimes they lead to a controler!

Sometimes you can find VMU's inside used controlers.

If you see one out there dont hesitate to ask how much.

There are lots of boxed controlers and even more loose.

flojo yea i figured the blue logo one was the Euro one. However how so many show up in the US. Even in the Racketboy Store he has the blue logo one. Wasnt sure....PS...you are right about not always going the ebay route...Though in fleamarkets around here i rarely run into Dreamcast stuff. The occasional loose DC game perhaps. Its always worth of look and of course there's always Craigslist as well or our one racketboy store..The controllers are so cheap i bought two new ones not to long ago instead of some crusty, greasy snot filled one..lol

These guys- http://www.thetimecapsule.com/

managed to get a whole warehouse full of brand new/sealed SEGA accessories, including SEGA Dreamcast stuff. I recall speaking to one of the guys who runs the store and he told me that they bought all of the product from an abandoned warehouse at an auction. I managed to pick up a few brand new Dreamcast controllers on the cheap. I believe they were 10 bucks each.

Got a sealed blue VMU a few months back for $8 shipped.

You sometimes find this with systems that have short retail lifespans. For example, a good bit of sealed Jaguar games out of there.
