Triggers not Working on Saturn 3D Pad
The shoulder buttons/LR triggers aren't working on my SS 3D pad. Taking it apart tomorrow. Any tips?

Dude, that pad is really rare. Too bad it isn't working right.

Hopefully taking it apart will fix it.
Sometimes its been in the same position for years without being used. Check the pads if they have them. check to see that the little plastic rails are lined up and the little springs as well.
Let's hope the springs aren't broken. I've never taken one apart, but I suspect they are similar to Dreamcast triggers.

Re: Triggers not Working on Saturn 3D Pad
One of the triggers on one of mine didn't work NIB, and the solution was really simple. The analog detection is actually done by small pancake-shaped mangets clipped onto/into the trigger's plastic (with megnetic sensors that detect proximity). I simply picked the magnet off the metal-bit it was stuck on (a screw I think) and glued it back into place. I gave both magnets a good solid dollop of 2-part epoxy.
iirc, getting the springs back into place was a bit of a challenge, so be careful when dissasembling it - at least take note of how the springs are supposed to be mounted if possible.
Should be quick and easy - good luck!

Thanks for the tips. Yeah, the model 1 SS controller isn't exactly the easy to reassemble. I figured the 3D controller would be touchy.
I got the controller 2 years ago w the jewel case of NiGHTS for $17 shipped. Not the end of the world if it's broken. Would like to have it have for Duke & Quake

Re: Triggers not Working on Saturn 3D Pad
I saw this thread and decided to get out my 3D controller that I've had sitting around for years. I followed Anapan's post and found the magnet just rolling around in there. I took a picture of the magnet for shits and giggles.

I fully reassembled the controller and didn't have much trouble with the springs. The ribbon cables were a pain in the ass, though. They kept getting in the way of the PCB sitting in the shell. I seem to have a problem with the responsiveness of the right shoulder button, though. It seems that after I press it a few times, it stops responding. Also, if I hold the button, it will stop functioning. I'm going to wait a few hours for the adhesive to dry and if that doesn't seem to do anything, I'll open it back up to check the ribbon cables for damage.

Are you sure? I have like 4 of the damn things and none cost me more than a couple bucks. I think Sega was overly optimistic and produced a crap-ton of them.johnny turbo wrote:Dude, that pad is really rare. Too bad it isn't working right.
