That same argument could be used for Capcom and Ducktales. Capcom can certainly handle the title in-house, but decided it was easier to hand it off to WayForward.
Can they? Capcom's development house power has dwindled greatly in the last 2 years. Furthermore, Capcom's digital distribution focus isn't nearly as great as Sega's - 1/3 of Sega is dedicated entirely to digital distribution. Every announcement they've made in the last 2 years points to digital distribution being one of the most important pillars of the company. Sega is treating video games as a 3-cornered market - Home, Arcade, and DD. No other japanese company has that level of focus.

Furthermore, Sega's choice to have Sega Asia develop Sonic 4 episode 2's engine and Dimps do the level design, compared to the way Dimps handled ALL of Sonic 4 episode 1 signifies a desire to handle digital distribution themselves. They have a dedicated AM2 port team for DD, for example.

Capcom and Sega are trending in completely opposite directions right now. In my eyes, they're mirror images of each other in the most literal way.

I don't think anything about the original needed to be updated.

I mean, what are we going to get out of this? 2.5 graphics? No, thanks. :?

There are a lot of remakes coming out, for sure.

But why is that a bad thing? Especially here where we're a retro community? Shouldn't we all be happy about these instead of complaining?

We get to play a game we love from a new perspective, with new graphics, and new additions to the game.

I know I'm happy to see them. Especially the DuckTales one! And past remakes have shown when done right, they're fantastic (Bionic Commando).

I agree with this. In the past, I felt like a lot of games were being tainted by trying to update them or bring them to new systems. Recently, it seems that these games are being remade with the same love and care that we would give them. The classics are always still there for us to pick up and play, but if I'm looking for something fresh, it's nice to see updated versions of old games done right.

I'd like to see Felix the Cat for NES redone with a difficulty setting so it's more of a challenge

I can agree with this. They are trending apart behaviorally. But just because Sega is better equipped to handle something like this in-house doesn't mean Capcom is unable. It just means Capcom isn't interested. Capcom has different priorities.

Thing is, I'm still surprised Sega would do this in-house, if only because Disney games don't stand out for me as the titles that would be on Sega's high-priority list. But perhaps there's some interest from Disney that's helping to drive this.

I'd love to see it, but as I mentioned in the Ducktales remake thread, I wonder who would make it.

It was published by 3 different companies depending on the country and system (Sony Imagesoft every where but Japan, where it was split between Capcom and Sega), and I have no clue who has control of it now beyond Disney.
