Desperate to fix and play Sega Saturn

Post by benderx »

Here is the deal and and problems.
Okay sega model 1 laser issue to enable gameplay. I can see model 1 laser on not powerful but noticeable to see by the naked eye. Yes I know its not good to directly into lens, but seen from a certain angle. Upon inserting a game it starts to spin the disc and the the interface starts to freeze quickly then the disc stops playing. Model 1 has never been able to play games. Menu screen is fine for audio and video. I already messed around with laser screw and that doesn't help at all for me.

Model 2 Saturn is able to properly boot up a scratch a game with Success :) , but the Saturn Video connection quality is rainbow shit all over the place and outputting black/ white color unresponsive. I did find out the Saturn main onboard is in bad shape A/V pin holes. The picture quality comes and goes... never getting a good picture and the audio can become mute. moving the input connect pin holes causes the saturn video to go on off like crazy like antenna. This saturn has color issues. I'm using composite cables at best, I don't have s-video.

Pin hole connector looks as bad as this

What should I do with these two saturns to fix, at least one in correct order?

I'm not the original sega saturn owners, bought both used and in poor condition.

Try using RF cable on your model 2. I personally never use RF but it might bypass the video issue.

I'm surprised, my model 1 & 2 SS consoles are beast. No issues.

I did in fact own a RF cable No Audio or video from old standard tv. I felt like I got ripped off eventhough I got it brand new in the box. official sega product. I did the RF on model 2. RF cable is not here with me, plus I hate RF stuff.

Maybe a bad video encoder? composite would be generated from source rgb.

The video port might be a little corroded. I presume you don't have contact cleaner, so get your alcohol ready. Unhook everything. hold the video cable pointing upwards and splash a little alcohol in the end on the pins. Pour it out so it is just wet, not a load of liquid, then plug/unplug it into the system several times. Perhaps repeat this for a minute, then unplug and set stuff aside to dry for an hour with a fan pointed at it. Then give it another shot.
