Only thing I really disagree with here is anything that's been said about the Genesis that doesn't imply or clearly state that it sucks.

I'm trying to be nice to the SNES, but my patience with Nintendo fans is not infinite  .

I like my Genesis a lot, but I grew up with SNES.

Needless to say, if I was forced to choose I'd choose SNES, no questions asked.

Ok, what I wanna know is; why anytime there was a dual-release for these systems, the SNES port usually seemed more polished; better sound, visuals, control.

Hmmm?

I think both systems are great but for me I like genesis much more due to its game library. I don't like rpg's and I love games like haunting and comix zone and streets of rage. Plus the genesis games are cheaper than the snes games.

Well yeah, 'cause they're not as good. You get what you pay for.

sound: SNES had better sound effects, sure. Music is more of a case-by-case thing
visuals: SNES could do a lot more colors and was capable of a lot more cool visual stuff
control: the 6-button genesis pad was pretty sweet, much better for most fighters than the SNES pad.

By this logic Action 52 is an incredible game.

Largely due to the better video hardware -- the SNES could display more colours on screen, it could do transparency and was able to offload tasks to on-cart co-processors. It also had more RAM.

The Genesis had a faster CPU though, could display more sprites on screen and had arguably better software effects.

I guess it came down to the fact that the SNES crushed the Genesis in overall sales, and developers put more resources behind their SNES ports.

In the US at least, they were pretty much neck and neck until near the end of that generation. I don't think install base had much to do with it.
