Horseman, please do not take offense in what I and others are saying here. Please read it and understand it. None of us are sending personal attacks your way. Many of us here are in our 20s and 30s and older and have actually lived in Japan or have Japanese family.

It's not that you were trying to sound nice. You were putting an entire group of people on a pedestal that has not been earned. It DOES exist in current pop-culture myth, and a few of us here have simply let you know the inaccuracies of "the Japan myth." That is all.
There is racism where an entire group based on race is put down, but it also exists on the other end of the spectrum; where an entire race/group is put up based on a mythos created around that race/group. That seems to happen with Japan a lot. In the past couple hundred years, America was that country.
Don't get my wrong, I like Japan a lot. In fact, I love Japan. I lived there for years. I married a Japanese woman. My daughter is half Japanese. It is probably my favourite country overall for a few reasons. That is because the positives outweigh the negatives for me, but, to be honest, there are some VERY big negatives there. I am glad you seem to like Japan. Just don't buy all the propaganda about how "polite and respectful" everything there is.
Here is some homework for you: type in "tatemae" into google and read about it. You might have some interesting reads.
