I'm impressed. Nintendo pres takes a 50% pay cut for 3DS.

Post by J T »

Here's the story:
http://kotaku.com/5825872/nintendo-pres ... nt-pay-cut

"Iwata said he is taking responsibility for the 3DS, which translates into a cut in his paycheck. 'For cuts in fixed salaries, I'm taking a fifty percent cut, other representative directors are taking a 30 percent cut, and other execs are taking a 20 percent cut,' said Iwata."

I'm really impressed by this, even if fixed salaries are only a fraction of where their money comes from. I wish we saw this kind of thing from CEOs in America more often, but instead our higher ups usually reward themselves with bonuses and vacations for all the layoffs they have to make when their companies fail.. This is an admirable move by Nintendo execs in my opinion that the big guys are taking a hit for the team. It makes me want to buy a 3DS just based on business politics.

I really like Iwata. This is a much better response than firing Gunpei Yokoi because of the Virtual Boy.

Also, you should definitely buy a 3DS. I'm planning to get one myself. The games that are out may mostly be rehashes, but they're mostly pretty good titles--and there is a very long list of games I would gladly replay if they're in 3D. Also, the hardware is just plain nice! The analog pad alone is a joy.

Iwata isn't one of the highest paid CEOs (especially compared with American CEOs), with Iwata making the equivalent of around US$2 million. Shigeru Miyamoto earns around $1.2 million.
Not that I imagine money really matters to him (He is loaded regardless), but how the fuck is Shigeru Miyamoto not the highest paid mother fucker at that company.

Compared to the Virtual Boy and to regular 3D glasses the 3DS doesn't cause many headaches. As for the controls, you're the first person I've seen complain about them. They're just the DS controls with an analog nub instead, and I haven't had a single problem with it.

People have been complaining because of the stylus, which is impossible to use with 3D on.

How? I haven't had any problem with using the stylus and 3d. Now I don't like the stylus placement, but thats it.

Because he has refused to be in charge of the company. His actual payroll income is only a little higher than other top software developers at Nintendo - at his own insistence. I read a funny story about the hoops Nintendo has to jump through to pay Miyamoto his proper compensation without causing him to complain about being treated as anything else than another employee.

Miyamoto is like Keiji Inafune and Hideo Kojima to me - one of the original greats of this era of gaming who have managed to stay relevant by keeping themselves on the development side of the business as much as possible.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

No chance in hell would you ever, EVER, see Reggie pull something like this.

NoJ are cool. I'm not much of a huge Nintendo fan anymore, but I still like Miyamoto a lot. He's just having fun and doing what he loves.

This is why I love the Japanese. They take responsibility for their actions, and are willing to take the repercussions. They also have great respect. Now if America could be like this....

I know! Reggie, GTFO.
