The fighting engine in the Dokapon games is vaguely similar, but that's about the closest thing I can think of that made it to the states.

I just remembered another one. I actually wasted a lot of time with this on the PS1:

The King of Fighters: Kyo

It's a mix of a dating sim and a turn-based fighter with those silly animations. Quite enjoyable, I recall.

In fact, I remember loving performing Desperation Moves because of the anime style animation.

Broken Pixels was an awesome show when it was around.. Play some crappy videogames with a few buddies and mock the hell out of the experience - which is what everybody I know of does whenever we pop in Dynowarz or Bible Adventures!

And this was before the Angry Video Game Nerd...!

There's also Flame of Recca: Final Burning on the PS2

...and I remember a Zenki one for the Super Famicom (there are two Zenki games on the SFC, one is a sidescrolling beat em up and the other is a cinematic fighter, like the one you're looking for. Both are pretty good).

That might be because you aren't into the Japanese import scene. These types of games (FMV fighting style) never really made it out of Japan.

Yes, the PC-FX probably has the best of them. It's not terribly expensive to get a system and a few of these games if anyone is interested.

Ah, this one looks quite interesting. I was hoping there'd be a PS2 one.

Huh? These are strategy RPGs.
Thus the questions marks. I couldn't even really tell what was going on in the video you posted, but the visual presentation looked similar in the Wars games.

I don't think Toribash is quite what you are looking for either, now that I look through more of the thread.

No problem, I didn't mean to offend or anything.

You guys have my interest in a PC-FX piqued. I know it doesn't have all that much to offer but it seems like a cool piece of Japanese hardware. A new thread in the B/S/T forums may be incoming...
