Then you're probably not that familiar with the pre-3D MK's.
Or it's just such a small difference that it doesn't matter.
Honestly I'd argue in favor of this.

I also played the demo (and that's it for now, but soon...). My favorite character is also Cage.

Playing the demo felt perfectly natural and normal. I thought nothing of it.

I'm more familiar with the 2d mks than the 3d ones. Hell, I'd been playing MKII for several days up until the demo released, so it was fresh in my mind.

I understand the complaint, I really do, but I don't think its that big a deal. I feel like you might be overthinking it.

If you're an MK fan, then since about MK4 you've gotten used to slight variations on how moves are performed. Yea, it sucks for a minute, but HEY you adapt.
This. As far as game to game changes go, this is nothing compared to the rest of the series.

It's fine if you like the new controls.

I was just pointing out that my control swap make the most sense if you're an MK purist like me. I like my punches on the left and kicks on the right. And Liu Kang's "flying kick" should NOT be assigned to a punch button!

That's all I'm really sayin. :)

I haven't played anything after MK4, but I did play MK4. Sub-Zero's freeze was implemented with Down, Forward, Low Punch.

I went to check on Liu Kang's move sets on MK4, and as expected they were the same as in MK2 despite the 3D.

Deadly Alliance: identified uppercut button as "Attack 2" and "Attack 1" has punch moves. Freeze is D,F, Attack 2.

It seems Deception onward that they changed Freeze to a "kick button". I still think that was a design mistake (and they could easily have fixed it in MK9). I think it is slightly poetic that this design flaw was introduced in "Deception".
It is repeated in Armageddon and also in the game with DC characters.
I would say from this that it is likely that they decided for some reason to have MK9 inherit the illogical sequence from Deception / Armageddon / DC, instead of the logical one from 1,2,3,4 and DA... Even though MK9 is 2D like 1,2 and 3 and a throwback to the older games.

I think it means something that the vast majority of moves fall in the "logical" framework ("punch" special moves with a punch button, "kick" special moves with a kick button). This isn't even limited to MK, as far as I know. I'm not an expert but as I said, it would also feel weird to do Hadoukens and Shoryukens with a kick button.

The timing on Mortal Kombat combo's is weird to me but I'm getting the hang of it. Its kind of like dial-a-combo once you've got the first hit in a series. Just starting to get used to it but I think I like it.

After getting one frame links in Street Fighter games for years this is kind of a relief. Makes the game more about thinking what I want to do in a situation an less about what I can and cannot execute. I like it because in SF4 often I would know what really hard technique I would like to come out, but would often play defensively to avoid being punished if I missed it. So many times I've backed out of situations my character could have advantage in, if I had superhuman execution. I guess soon enough players will find all of the crazy things that CAN be done with timing.

Got it for ps3 and might get a second copy for 360. and love it, reminds me of the good mk's from when I was a kid. Best (new) fighter I have played this year imo.

This game is worse than SSFIV when it comes to rage quitters. What is so wrong about losing a fighting game match?

The same thing for any online competitive game. How you do in the game relates directly to your worth as a person.

At least thats what going through there addled brains.

Don't game designers know better already to make disconnects count as losses?

I'm pretty sure disconnects count as a loss in BlazBlue. I think they do in SSFIV too? They definitely don't in MvC3 though.
