Re: help me brainstorm some classic games
thanks guys, anyone else? If you don't play a particular genre, just name the first 3 games that come to mind. Even that is an indication that the games are well associated with the genre (at least to you).
Re: help me brainstorm some classic games
These are the first games that come to mind that I remember having a lot of fun playing for the first time. Not necessarily the best (tho many of them were for their time), but the ones that made a big impact - usually because it was what got me into the genre.

Likewise, you could say any of Compile's shmups and most of Toaplan's as well.Xeogred wrote: Shooter

Definitely, Compile and Toaplan are the best of the best as far as old-school shumps go.Hobie-wan wrote:Likewise, you could say any of Compile's shmups and most of Toaplan's as well.Xeogred wrote: Shooter

Re: help me brainstorm some classic games
Looks like I have a lot of homework to do, because I'm not that familiar with Compile! Haha... the shmup world is a beast. They apparently did Guardian Legend though? Holy crap yeah, gotta love that cover art, love that game. Think I've maybe played a few of their Genesis titles though, like Musha Aleste.brunoafh wrote:Definitely, Compile and Toaplan are the best of the best as far as old-school shumps go.Hobie-wan wrote:Likewise, you could say any of Compile's shmups and most of Toaplan's as well.Xeogred wrote: Shooter

Speaking of this stuff I swear there was a huge Genesis shmup guide on racketboy that I was planning on diving into someday, that I can't find anymore... maybe I'm making this up? (maybe it was a Sega-16 article?)
