Pardon the 10 second hack job, but they don't fit this way either?

Looks like it's meant to hold the Genesis games in the cases with the bottoms of the cases against the back of the shelf, like you've got Kid Chameleon in the picture. Does a nice round number of cases fit in each shelf that way?

SMS cases are the same size as Gen ones and the carts are more or less the same size too, just square.

If you look at the first picture, only the top and bottom of each section has a wide part between the ribs. Looking at #3, you can see that the ribs in the middle would prevent sliding a case in.

This is really strange, as I can't think of any other thing that this would be for. This must be for Sega CD or something of the ilk.

Yeah, but it says GENESIS on the shelf. If it were meant to fit import carts, wouldn't it say Megadrive?
Good point. How about Japanese carts were they called Genesis and are they slightly larger?

Are Sega CD cases a proprietary size?

Here is a direct pic for a closer study. Man that cart is close! Shelf too deep though.

European Mega Drive carts are the exact same shape and size as Genesis carts. Japanese Mega Drive carts are about the same size but a slightly different shape:

Is there a model number stamped on it anywhere? That might help...
 (FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

Try laying the shelf on its back, then put in naked carts with the top part of the label facing up so you can read it.

If you were standing over it, it would look this, where each "I" is a cart, and the underlines are the dividers.
