Free Photoshop alternatives?

As already noted, GIMP is a great free alternative to Photoshop. Getting a little off topic perhaps, but for vector graphics I've found Inkscape to be another great tool.

If anyone is into vector graphics and wants an expensive program for free, then head over to dreamspark.com for Microsoft Expression Studio. Microsoft sponsors it and you need to have an email account from an accredited college but when you clear that, its all good!

Awesome! I never even thought to look for a free Photoshop alternative. I've just been using MS Paint all these years.

You can't touch up photos on this one, but can crop and rotate. Best feature is that you can convert tons of file types.

Ive hd the best luck with paint.net. I could never get used to the interface in gimp. But still when it comes down to it, if you really need photoshop there's no good alternative. i don't think I could get by to easily without it.

Don't forget you can get a photoshop style layout version of TheGimp called Gimpshop.
