I finally had some time to review these links & absorb the in depth replies. Thanks gents. Learned a lot. I've helped friends & family hook up receivers & surround sound systems, but outside of those standard setups, I'm a greenhorn.marurun wrote:A better solution might be to get one of those cheap mini amps. You can get one of those with a couple inputs and a headphone jack. Something like this:
After reading reviews and specs, I think I like the guy above. I also dig the look & form factor. Nice looking piece of equipment.
My gameroom TV speakers are slowly starting to act up on my 11 year old Vizio. Cool I can connect some speakers. Also, my gameroom backs up to my home office and there's a 3.5mm input. I could use this to jam music while working too.
I noticed the headphone out is the larger type connector..14-Inch AUX-In Jack
The .14-inch jack, located conveniently in the front, allows you to connect the input of many devices including iPods, MP3 players, smartphones, CD players, etc.
Four Push Type Speaker L/R Terminals
Push Type Speaker Terminals
Lets you easily connect speaker wires directly to the amplifier.
I could just use a 1/4 to 3.5mm adapter such as this with no issues correct?.25-Inch Phone Jack
Accepts headphones with .25-inch plugs.

Yep, that will work fine. Headphone outputs are always TRS that can either be 1/4" or 3.5mm, but you can adapter to/from either.Jagosaurus wrote:I could just use a 1/4 to 3.5mm adapter such as this with no issues correct?

Re: Audiophile Help - 3.5mm Headphone on Retro Consoles
Okay gents... some more help/advice needed. My other 2 TVs around the house (not in game room) have stereo RCA red/white output (but not a 3.5mm output).
Is this signal from the TV good for headphones or still not best practice? In these rooms, I was thinking of using male RCA to female 3.5mm for a similar headphone setup from the TV itself versus off the consoles. I know typically this signal would be going to a receiver setup, then to speakers. Imagine it's a similar scenario to the OP (using headphones directly off console RCA outputs), but I happen to nowhave volume control on the TV?
I recall it being mentioned the TV has a built in amp for 3.5 output intended for headphones. Maybe it hits all audio output from TV?
I'm sure it will work, but not sure how well.

Really not recommended. That is, again, line level out. You want to connect it to an amp. Those cheap amps are the way to go these days.

You could also juat get an older/cheaper receiver. Those always have a headphone line out.
