PlayStation Classic
Re: PlayStation Classic
Oh man, that'd be killer. I want this to happen so badly! It actually makes sense in a conspiracy theorist's mindset, but yeah it's probably just a single-board computer. I'm still hopeful for a decent hacking community to form around this thing.

Re: PlayStation Classic
Actually I wouldn't call it too conspiracy theorist. It would be Sony yet again taking an idea Nintendo did and making it their own. Whether it's the overkill hardware for the NES CE reused for SNES, and proven using a junky retroarch build that N64 full frame is possible as well on the same board and chipset. Given how badly the PS TV failed out, what they put into it as far as expended time and resources to have it go tits up selling for $20 one week $50 the next on many sites that thing had to be a loss. Why not re-use the board and stuff a new custom OS on there to fire up just PS1 games? It had just 1GB of storage, but it could take up to a 64GB sony made proprietary memory card. If you're talking about 20 PS1 games and some are multi disc. Being generous let's say 30CDs? That would be about 20GB of storage required so they could easily up the storage on the existing setup too.
I wouldn't put it passed them to take that low easy way out of it using what they already had made instead of designing something from scratch, but who knows. With the Vita hardware coming to an end in months from now, the factories are still there to use that hardware if you think about it.

Re: PlayStation Classic
PSTV innards would make that thing really interesting and inviting- that just increases the hacking possibilities.
Even if its the same level as the stuff Nintendo is putting out (which does run PS1 stuff when hacked), it'll be fine. And I'm sure the hacking scene will be big, as the people around hackchi are already talking about it, and already working on hacks for the C64 mini.

There are some surprises in the North American list. I was not expecting Persona or Intelligent Qube to make the cut. I have never heard of Mr Driller. Who was clamoring for that one?

Wow... will have dig into the list more when I have time.
I like Mr. Driller games bc I like Dig Dug... BUT I had no idea there was a PS1 game. I associated it with Dreamcast, GBC, & DS.

Re: PlayStation Classic
Mr. Driller kinda speaks to them perhaps wanting another puzzle game on the line-up for fans of those types of games? Thinking more cynically, though, it's another Namco property that they could easily use to pad out the list to 20 games and they already had Namco collaborating for Tekken so it was a no-brainer to include it.
Definitely a bit of an odd list. Why RE1 and not RE2? I mean I get staples like Symphony of the Night, Spyro, and Crash not being on there because those have either just gotten or are about to get remaster collections of their own. Given that games like Intelligence Qube are so rare and not that well known online (this isn't an Earthbound situation), the only reason I can think that it's on there is to appeal to interested enthusiasts who want a more legit way than emulation to try it. Same with the first Persona kinda being a way to draw people in by capitalizing on the popularity of the more recent Persona games despite Persona 1 not really being much anything like the more popular later entries.
In any case, this list certainly hasn't done much to dissuade me from just buying them on PSN to play them on my PSTV or PS3 or PS4 though. Nintendo has done such a bad job of re-releasing their games in a way that's easy to transfer over to new consoles, they have a weird kind of stronger pull for their Classic series by way of being less consumer friendly
. Sony being so much better at having such a good collection of PS1 games on PSN that you've been able to transfer to your newer systems for so long kinda makes a PS1 Classic a bit redundant no matter what the line-up on it is, imo.

Re: PlayStation Classic
Yeah I am hard out on this. A good chunk of these games were featured on a ps3 humble bundle. Another chunk are easily available on current hardware and for cheap. I am only saying that it isn't for me specifically, but I could see a lot of people wanting to get in on this. Don't know how the lack of thumbsticks will effect these games.

Re: PlayStation Classic
Laughable lineup. Like I said when this was announced, this is rather pointless with how widely available PS2/PS3's are that can all play PSX games already, plus the hundreds of titles on the PSN for the PS3 along with its convenience hooking up correctly to HDTV's, and ability to create and manage nearly infinite memory cards. I'm not sure why anyone needs this.
Re: PlayStation Classic
List is Ballz (3D). Would not buy for cash monies.
Will wait and find out just how hackable it is.
