Have you ever been dissapointed by the library of a console?

Hence why it’s secret. :wink:
I’ve never confused “best” with “best-selling” anyway. 8)

For my gaming tastes, I would have to say the N64, Dreamcast, and the Wii have the least appeal or most disappointing. I was disappointed in the N64 then, and still now, it only has a few games with lasting appeal. The Dreamcast I tried getting into later and just didnt click for me. The Wii to me is marred by waggle controls, and in typical fashion relatively poor or inferior 3rd party and multiplat games.

I'm not a huge fan of the Wii despite its large library but that is mostly due to my distaste for motion controls and having an inferior catalogue compared with its contemporaries in genres I prefer like racing games, FPS and sports games. I also have this disconnect with the Wii that I don't with other standard definition consoles in that when I play a game like say Xenoblade Chronicles I really wish it had come out on the PS3/360 instead just so it was in HD from the off. That's me though.

The console whose library I care the least for is easily the Gamecube. Disappointed with it at the time, still am now. Metroid Prime is my favourite Metroid, Rogue Leader is still a blast and Smash Melee, along with Halo, were essential at parties back in my late school years.

Aside from Smash and Metroid though, all the other the first party games I found inferior to their predecessors on the N64 and SNES and there was no reason to buy a third party game for it (if it was even available) if you owned either a PS2 or Xbox. I found a lot of the other "quality" titles always seemed really gimmicky to me; thinking of Donkey Konga, Crystal Chronicles and TLOZ: Four Swords. The only Gamecube game I actually want that I don't own or haven't owned is Paper Mario: TTYD but otherwise I'd happily sell the damn thing tomorrow.

@JMustang,
With your RPG style, not surprised at N64 & DC being on your list. I considered Zelda 64 games a light action RPG then (still do) so that covered it well enough for me at the time. I do remember renting Quest 64 & not caring for it at all :lol:. Remind me, is Ogre 64 a unique game to the 64? Not a reskin or remaster? If so, ever ported elsewhere after?

DC still has the definitive release of Grandia II compared to PS2 mess & buggy, crashing PC port. Interested to see how the Switch HD port stands up. Hope they start from DC source. DC might lose another big reason for owning it.

Speaking of, we discussed the lack of DC exclusives these days in a thread a couple years back:
http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1070632

At the time, I loved my DC. Having a home arcade was amazing. It essentially was a home NAOMI "lite." Some NAOMI games have been patched by homebrew community & run on the DC hardware (NAOMI took carts).

Now... it's mostly nostalgia for the DC for me as the vast majority of the games can be found elsewhere or on MAME.

@Soap,
If you like FPS, you owe it to yourself to play The Conduit & the sequel on Wii.

Really wish H.V. would've released The Grinder (horror FPS cancelled):

OB64 is unique and exclusive to the N64, one of the few reasons I keep one around haha.

Nice... will have to see if OB64 emulates well. The other handful of N64 titles I really care about now (games I have nostalgia for) emulate fine, so do the other 5 or so or my to-play list.

I can totally understand N64. I have one around, but only one game for it and haven't touched it in years. Still holding out that we might get a Classic of it.

I'm surprised by so many Wii answers, but I don't mind motion controls, so that's probably just a taste difference.

I’m actually going to go out on a limb and say that the Wii has a surprisingly good library (after you separate the wheat from the chaff). There are tons of cool games on Wii. I mean... I can’t deny there’s also a bunch of shovel ware games too. Shovelware aside, there’s probably a hundred games on Wii that are worth playing, especially if you count all the GameCube titles.

Out of major consoles, I'll echo the Wii. I bought one a few years after it was released and even then thought the library was subpar. But buying a Wii used, was cheaper than buying Gamecube component cables at the time. So basically, I bought a Wii to play Gamecube games in 480p and mess with Homebrew. Not its own library.
