Firgt time I seen JCVD was watching no retreat, no surrender in middle school. I'm a big fan of his movies. Always wondered why he wore his pants so high up though lol. Like past his belly button high.

Nice to hear CoCo was good. I was on the fence about seeing it. I really like dinosaurs but wasn't too thrilled with The Good Dinosaur Pixar put out. I might be overly excited for The Incredibles 2.

Can't risk having pants on your ankles interfering with your high kick?

Man, I love No Retreat, No Surrender. It's 90 minutes long, and 30 minutes are pretty much one montage. Also, we get into some serious Brucesploitation territory. It's awesome.

I think his first movie appearance was a dancer in breakin, seen that at the movies in like 4th grade, dam I'm getting old lol.

Trained by brue lee's ghost. A good cheesey 80's karate flick. Martial art movies were insanely popular way back then.

I'll take JCVD vs snipes. I never cared for stallone's movies besides the rocky franchise or segals stuff outside of glimmer man

I went to see Black Panther this past Saturday. It's been almost ten years since I last went to see a movie in theaters. I don't really watch TV, either, so I'm not sure how I actually saw the trailers the past couple months, but they were memorable, and I was pretty pumped about it coming out. I don't particularly care about the MCU, and while Black Panther didn't quite meet my expectations, it was still a good time. Usually I'm just not that interested in the stuff that comes out of Hollywood; I was jacked up for the Blade Runner sequel for months, and then didn't even go to see it. I just had more motivation to see Black Panther, I suppose.

The problem with Black Panther, for me, is that I don't have any connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (which turned out to be an issue in terms of fully understanding some early events that I didn't realize were flashbacks to an Avengers movie), and I haven't payed attention to the comics since I was about 11. As a consequence, my interpretation of the film is less within the frame of a comic book super hero, and more in terms of a "standard" action movie. I guess the good part is that it offered enough commentary, and action that wasn't reliant on reading all of the Jungle Action comics bi-annually.

I'm not ashamed to admit that one of the things that grabbed me from the trailers was Shuri; She is such a cool character, and I would love to work for her on one of her design teams. I get the feeling, from some light reading on the Black Panther lore, that Shuri isn't quite the same super genius character in the comics, though--at least, I found that the heart shaped herb was also supposed to give T'Challa, and other iterations of the Black Panther, superlative cognition, which wasn't indicated in the movie at all. Maybe someone who knows a bit more could elucidate, but it seemed like maybe they transposed T'Challa's genius onto Shuri's character--which I am totally cool with. I also read that Shuri becomes the Black Panther in the comic universe, so I am 100% ready for the movie sequel with Shuri as the main character. (Be good for something, and green light it, Disney.)

The one thing that I still can't get over, and which may be explained more by the comics, is:
Killmonger's motivation. It doesn't make any sense to me why he would be working with Klaue. Initially, when it becomes clear that Killmonger is stabbing him in the back, I though, 'Oh, ok. He needs Klaue in order to figure out how to get into Wakanda. Then he just kills the dude, and I'm sitting there dumbfounded, thinking, 'How the hell are you going to get into Wakanda, now!' So, of course he just strolls right into Wakanda, without even a second thought about it. Later, in the Ancestral Plane, it's sort of implied that Erik got into his father's stuff when he was a kid. So, okay, for the sake of argument, let's say he remembers that stuff, in extreme detail, from when he was a kid; If he knew how to get into Wakanda the whole time, why was he working with Klaue? Why would Killmonger, seemingly, seek him out, in a way that might prompt his employer (the fucking CIA) to get involved. There are so many details that just don't add up other than that they make elements of the plot convenient.

I also found the way Killmonger so unremorsefully killed the girl he was with to be a bit lame. At least do more to establish the benefit she serves him as a chess piece, if the goal is to highlight the sociopathy.
Anyway, I have my quibbles, but it was still one of the better Hollywood blockbusters I've ever seen.

My spoilered rant reminds me a little bit of this one caustic, youtube critic, girl, who picks apart comic book, and Star Wars movies. I should see if she has a video for Black Panther.

Oh, also the soundtrack is pretty wicked. I can stop listening to "Pray For Me," and "All the Stars."

So it is actually good? I guess I was partly a little scared that, although Gosling and Ford were making the interview rounds, I wasn't really hearing anything about it, once it debuted.

It's not good, it is excellent. I'm a huge fan of the original and I feel like they did a sequel the right way. Totally see it.
