We (RB) Got a Mention on CU Podcast

Post by Jagosaurus »

Topic starts around 1 hour 56 mins, Racketboy gets mentioned at 1 hour 57 minutes.

I believe he is referring to our marketplace, self policing/feedback system, trusted members, and niche site (as is discog) versus a catalog type system but it all gets lumped into the same conversation.

Nothing ground breaking, just caught me off guard and figured you guys (and Nick especially) would appreciate it as this is a fairly popular podcast within our hobby. Also, I'm not huge into his Pat the NES Punks videos to be honest (production value is solid, just not my cup of tea) but I do dig this podcast as a source of news for current gaming and the retro scene as a whole.

No one individual is the standard for "well-known."

Why do defensive? Everyone these days has a podcast. So a mention isn't a big deal unless it's something that has a larger following. Like if Giant Bomb mentioned hte place then it could be cool. So just wondering if this is a Podcast with a larger following.

No, not that huge. It's a two man, self produced podcast and youtube channel. His YT channel has .25 million subs (he uploads podcast bits there) and the pod bean downloads show 1.6 million. He's also on Sticher, itunes, etc. I'd say decent coverage and views/listens within our small hobby of retro games, but not Rooster Teeth or IGN by any means.

Give it a listen. I like they cover everything from Nintendo Switch upcoming games to the newest retro clones and homebrew. They also dive quite a bit into game prices, ebay, and the retro "market" as Ian manages an independent brick & mortar trade in game store.

1.6 million sounds pretty well-listened to me.

Awesome thanks for the info. I don't listen to podcasts anymore so was cool to get the info. Well, cool beans then. :)

Interesting! Thanks for sharing!

Seems interesting he referenced the site the way he did as it seemed out of place.
But I've actually thought about doing a better database like they are talking about. But yeah, it would be really hard to pull off well.

Yeah he eventually got around to talking about their overall market place community. I think that's what he was getting at originally with us but it took some time

Yeah, when he was first describing, I was thinking he was confusing us with one of the game databases out there.
I'm actually still considering something like this. A month or two ago, I was chatting with the guy that ran VGRebirth back in the day. He took it down as it was hard to maintain from security exploits. I'm still considering if it would be worth the work and stuff. If the site brought in more money, I could hire more stuff out, but right now I'm just focusing on doing new content and "refurbishing" old stuff.
