Yes someone needs to tell me how to actually use the supergun I've had forever.
So many guides assume prior knowledge.
A "play MVS games at home" guide would be solid.
Arcade cab vs. CMVS vs. converter.

Re: What Retrogaming topics did you/do you find intimidating
Kind of embarrased about it a little just because I have had past/present no issue learning or re-learning how to screw around with DOS, whatever Windows, even Linux in college (MacOS there too), and iOS.
But for the life of me I can't get my mind wrapped around android outside of the superficial touch/controller interface making me feel like an idiot. I've tried on a few tablets to jack that into my computer and go through the android packages to interface and read as much as I can, I think I need to be hands on SHOWN it because I can't figure how to get it to do what I'm reading which is infuriating. Side loading or using store junk fine and all, but trying to really get around the guts of it, move or find things, and so on without using some dumb app like ES File Manager I stumble on horribly. It's a good reason why I have not got a Pi setup to screw around with because I read up on setting this or that up and I'll start tinkering and get nowhere, and don't want to invest $75 into some Pi3 kit for it to be useless. Yet at the same time I refuse to have someone do it for me either to be kind or to pay some tool triple for a Pi box because they took an hour if that to set it up.
As I see it, less of a distraction but hate to leave that as it is too.

What that almost sounds like is that a command line primer or quick reference is what'd help you?

How to set up a Raspberry Pi / Retro Pi to run various emulators. But not how to get ROMs. That's basically, I think, what he's trying to get at.

All the PC Engine CD add ons and specialty hue cards would be a nice reference guide. Also including the NA NTSC counterparts and the duo consoles.
I have to look that up a couple times a year. I don't own any PCE/TG16 hardware
but curiosity keeps getting me.
There are certain CD models made for certain base units, others fit but look goofy. You need card "x" to play any basic CD game, but you then also need card "a" to play CD game type "b." Then there's an arcade card and so on. Does the duo come with one built in? See... to Wikipedia I head
Sure I'm not the only person searching that muitlple times a year. I'd bookmark it!

Generally though, that's literally "flash supplied image to an SD card" and not a whole lot more unless you really want to start tweaking things. I it's the combining that with navigating the Android filesystem (I guess?) without a file manager. At least, that's what it sounded like. I guess, to me, looking at CLI would be a focus for an article or whatnot, since it might be something people don't use outside of trying to get DOSBox or Raspbian configured.marurun wrote:How to set up a Raspberry Pi / Retro Pi to run various emulators. This is touched on in the TurboGrafx-16 101 article. You should review that and let me know what remaining questions you have. Maybe any remaining questions can filter into that article.Jagosaurus wrote:All the PC Engine CD add ons and specialty hue cards would be a nice reference guide. Yeah, by all means -- I'd love to add more helpful stuff to the 101s.marurun wrote:This is touched on in the TurboGrafx-16 101 article. A little bit of both and neither. I'm thinking back when I had the Google Nexus 7 originally I wanted to not wait for like 3-4mo for those lazies to roll out the updates to my tablet. I kept repeatedly trying to set up those windows apps which did include within them some command line stuff to wipe, read, and write a new firmware for one. Another would be just that ...how to setup something to get it working. ROMS are not a problem EP forum and elsewhere can get you more than properly supplied outside of some things but the old smokemonster has that covered which I'm sure you know what that is.marurun wrote:How to set up a Raspberry Pi / Retro Pi to run various emulators. I can't seem to get around the whole android file system, general navigation without tapping stupid color buttons (ES File Manager), basically going nuts on it at a DOS/Linux like level when needed for anything from firmware garbage to specifically if needed to tweak things including PI type stuff as I don't always like stuff stock vanilla because of some inane imposed limitations.
Funny DOSBox came up I used to be quite good with that and I've seemingly sometime ago forgot how to really use that all that well, but I could re-learn that. It's not that bad doing the mount procedure and then installing junk within there to use whether it's a DOS game or throwing Win3.X on there to use something within that.

It might be a little outside the remit, but I know plenty about how to get decent video quality out of old consoles, and nothing about how to get better sound quality out of them. Would love to know about sound quality mods, which consoles support what type of surround sound, that kinda thing.
