Classic games economics and ethics
Re: Classic games economics and ethics
A more appropriate comparison would be to the cost of all the available games on the VC plus a little extra for hardware and controllers, but even by that metric it's a fantastic deal.
Re: Classic games economics and ethics
Oh it's a great deal alright, even at the £10 above RRP I paid for my preorder but people look at articles like this which do little more than regurgitate ever-present ebay listings and suddenly think "Crikey, I've got one of them Mario games in the attic. I will be a millionaire!"marurun wrote:A more appropriate comparison would be to the cost of all the available games on the VC plus a little extra for hardware and controllers, but even by that metric it's a fantastic deal.
This is how it started.
I'm also not sure what to make of this:
"One eBay user is selling a boxed copy of Earthbound with the cart and instruction manual for £313. However, this has a “For Display Only” marking on it - if you’re looking to buy an original consumer version you’ll have to pay a lot more for it."

The collector's market is an ever changing ebb and flow based on a multitude of factors. Sure some things may go up in price in your market because of this for now, but that doesn't mean it will not fade with time.Betagam7 wrote:Oh it's a great deal alright, even at the £10 above RRP I paid for my preorder but people look at articles like this which do little more than regurgitate ever-present ebay listings and suddenly think "Crikey, I've got one of them Mario games in the attic. Re: Classic games economics and ethics
Lately I've been in towards a raspberry pie or a retro pie in a small Genesis or nes box and call it a day and sell all of my everdrives and systems.
I wanted to just keep my tg16 games I managed to pick up for cheap money and I'll tell you the games are almost like new. I also thought of keeping the Saturn also but there are two factors now. It's too damn expensive
If I get the retro pie I will kill off my collection, make money for the family, and just power on and play anything I want or had. Honestly I had my nes mini and Wii hacked and lately I've been playing on that more than anything.
I just feel as I get older my interest towards video games and buying and looking is almost done. I have all these systems and when my friends come over they play a little but as of late it's like ehh who cares.
Pretty much all this has happened in the last few months.
I would rather have a arcade cabinet and a desktop computer downstairs than all the cluster of the systems and games.

Not to denigrate what may very well turn out to be a wise move for you...but this all sounds hauntingly familiar to me. I've been through it a few times with this hobby. The feeling you have too much...that you might be done with games. The necessity to streamline.mas wrote:Lately I've been in towards a raspberry pie or a retro pie in a small Genesis or nes box and call it a day and sell all of my everdrives and systems.

First time was when emulation became commonplace and it seemed silly to own the actual games when you could sell them for money and have a digital library.
I found it wasn't the same.
A second time when legal emulation became a thing with the VC et al.
In both cases I obviously regret selling the things I did now for reasons well documented in this thread. In the end I'm glad I hung on to the majority of my games and systems.
If you need the money though, or want to raise money for an alternate way to game like the cabinet you mention then this is certainly not a bad time to be a seller.
On a side note, I haven't bought new Saturn games in a long time (my Saturn stuff is boxed up in another country) so hadn't followed their prices.
God Dammit! Does everything cost a million quid now!
The way things are going at least I'll be able to retire in about 20 years by selling Radiant Silvergun and PDS to some f%$*£&* Silicon Valley whizkids with the last remaining optical drive!

Yeah I just want out all together and just buy a pi and call it a day. Plus I'm unemployed so this will help with the bills and the mortgage.
Pcengine just shit on me because in the past I did do the regret and sell off and buy it again but now I'm 41 and my hobby has faded and I'm getting out of it all together.

Pay your bills. Family & real life first, but I'd think about selling what you don't have to. You posted this last week in the goals thread. You seems to go back & forth often.mas wrote:Yeah I just want out all together and just buy a pi and call it a day. Plus I'm unemployed so this will help with the bills and the mortgage.

Sleep on it for a week. The 13% ebay & paypal fees alone are worth considering. You eat those, even if re-buying at the same price. Any profit to had might also be gone due to those.mas wrote:I got a new one
Have the us library complete with cases and manuals of the following systems
Sega saturn
Master system
Tg16
This is coming from someone who has sold about 60% of my games & 66% of my DVD/BRs over the past 13 months. I very strategically dediced what to sell & didn't sell anything on an impulse. Just think long term bud, while always putting real life obligations first.
Just my 2 cents. Back to gaming ethics

Too late. I know I go back and fourth but now since I was introduced to the retro pie and the way the market is I'm selling it off. Plus I'd rather be doing other things in my life right now.
Besides I'm not out of gaming totally. I'll have these
Nes classic with
Nes
SMS
Tg16 libraries
Ps3
Modded Wii
Snes mini when it comes out
@jag
That last comment on my goals to get the library of tg16,SMS, and Saturn was a joke, no way could I afford that

I was wondering if it was the start of a 10 year goal
