What car do you drive?

My buddy's car made the Wall Street Journal:


Ferman is an awesome guy who owns what I would consider to be a fleet of BMWs. Even better, he'll say "pick one, and take it for a spin". It gets better. When he has a Guy Get Together, he'll rent a race track and let you push his cars to the limit.

Imagine (or don't) driving a Ford Focus for nearly a decade and then getting the keys to a BMW M5 that has nearly 600 horsepower. And I've had the "Richard Petty Experience", but the M5 put the RP car to shame.

I'm not a "car guy" at all. I'd rather my car be clean than fast, but there is something fun about driving a car that you don't drive, you have to control it.

2006 GMC Canyon - 4x4 Off Road - 4 Door/Crew Cab truck

Has an inline 5 cylinder engine, same as in the H3 Hummers (also same suspension & off road package as H3)

Sorry its dark. Pulled that Uhaul 900 miles. Been a great truck. 108,000 miles right now.

Just got my wife a 2010 GMC Terrain. She's now rocking a mid-size GMC SUV & I still have my mid-size GMC truck (Canyon) above.

The Terrain gets 27 mpg and is very roomy.

I've been driving this below for about 10 months, but just now updating this. I went for a full size pickup this round versus my previous mid sized 4x4 Canyon above. I'm a GM guy and like the gun metal tone colors as you an tell from both our current rides .

2011 Chevrolet Silverado with the 4.8L V8
302 HP, 305 toruqe, 4,700lb towing


Truck is 3 inches longer than a suburban so it took a bit to get use to driving, but I love the smooth ride. It's an extended cab and those back doors actually open as suicide doors for easy loading and back seat access.

It has a Tekonsha towing brake system to control & adjust the brakes on trailers that support it. Also installed is a towing stabilizer kit to reduce "sag" in the rear with heavy loads and improve stability. Those are both probably overkill, but it can easily pull a 24 foot RV/camper, large boat, or 2 horse trailer up and down those East Texas hills.



My next addition to her will be a Retrax water proof bed cover. Pic below. These retract (slide and roll back on a track) so you can still use the truck bed for taller loads, etc. Essentially, I can use it for luggage when traveling (waterproof!), but don't lose use of the bed for moving furniture, etc.



What do you guys think? Also, what is everyone driving these days? Know we have a couple of car nuts around here.

Cool ride, Jag. I never was a pickup truck man myself, but there have been a number of occasions when I wish I had one. Moving is a pain when you don't own a pickup truck.

I prefer slightly more gas-efficient vehicles, myself. My 2016 CR-V, AWD, is doing a fine job keeping me safe and comfortable this winter. I still need to add that trailer hitch, though...

I liked my '06 Impreza wagon, but their lineup was harder to get excited about when I was looking to trade it in. I test drove a WRX, but ultimately wanted something that wouldn't scrape the nose on some of the driveways and stuff around here. Wound up with a '15 Grand Cherokee, which is nice to be in even it's not particularly fun to drive.

My CRV has a Honda Earth Dreams engine. Stupid name, but the technology works. And it has a CVT that doesn't suck, too. Those are still somewhat hard to find.

Thanks man. Yeah, I've personally owned (and used as daily drivers) 3 trucks and 1 SUV. While I liked the SUV (Trailblazer), I'll always own a truck. Now my wife drives the mid sized GMC Terrain so I have the SUV with better gas mileage option if needed.

Luckily Mrs. Jago's Terrain gets 27 mpg. Surprisingly, my truck will gets 18 mpg and I do not baby it. My first Dodge SST Ram got 11-12 mpg. That thing was a beast. Previous post I had on that sport truck here. I never did jazz her up. Sold her as is.

Something I've never mentioned is that I also own a single cab 1996 Dodge Ram SST sport package with a 318 V8. That beast gets 12 mpg lol. My plan is to gradually get her in better cosmetic shape & have her looking similar to this:

Also my current truck can take e85 if you're lucky enough to find one of those in Houston. Shocking... oil and gas capital of the world has hardly any e85 stations

My mom drove an early CRV (2000 or so) and then gave it to my sister. I think it had 250K miles on it when she sold it. Great little SUV!

Daily - 2012 Corrolla LE - just shy of 40 miles to the gallon.
Weekend - 78 Ford C8000 - just shy of 4 miles to the gallon. Actually its not that bad but it is a big truck. That is just now getting is bed welded in this week.

My lease is up in one year. I'd really like to get a pickup, but I don't know if that's a good idea considering I'm currently ~35 miles each way from work. It's not even the gas mileage. The truck I'd want is a Tacoma, and they're rated 19/24 MPG which isn't that much less than what I'm getting in my current sedan (I'm getting about 28 MPG right now, and my commute is almost all highway). I'm just not sure how comfortable it would be to commute in a truck every day.

My brother told me I should just stick with a sedan and get a beater truck for a couple grand. Easy for him to say, being an auto mechanic. I wouldn't even mind doing repairs every so often, my hangup is having the truck go out and mess up my weekend plans. Or even worse, if I took time off for a project.

If not a truck, I'm thinking about getting a 5-door Impreza when my lease is up. AWD would be real nice for my commute during LI winters, and the hatch back would come in handy when I'm picking up building materials. It still wouldn't help me any for plywood, but at least 2 by's and whatnot would be easier than a sedan.

I shouldn't fret too much though, I'll probably only be able to afford a used Corolla.
