My New Years' goal is to use my leisure time to enjoy the 8, 16, and 32 bit gems I haven't touched yet.

Yeah, here's the entire line item for that one:Anayo wrote:My New Years' goal is to use my leisure time to enjoy the 8, 16, and 32 bit gems I haven't touched yet.

1. Softmod Wii
---
• Soft Mod my Wii via LetterBomb method (RVL-001 which is CGN compatible)
‣ Main purpose: Get .iso files for retail Wii & GCN games running.
‣ Secondary purpose: Run emulators for retro systems. I already have multiple emulators running well on the oXbox (see links in signature), but the Wii will become more reliable over time as the big black box isn’t getting any younger.
---
I know I'll get distracted and start DLing .isos, ripping my games, testing dual disc games, running emulators, trying multiple controllers in emus, etc. My PS2 and oXbox mods took under a hour initially, but both turned into a couple week projects that I'm still tweaking and tinkering with weekly
I'm expecting the Wii to be the same. Initial mod will spill into "further testing"

In my experience, just use RetroArch on the Wii when you get to that point. The other emulators I tried all seemed to have issues of some sort.

Re: 2017 Gaming goals and resolutions
I just want to finish all the games I've started in 2016. Right now I'm still working at Dragon Quest VII, FFXV, Dragon Quest Builders, and Let it Die, and probably a few more. I have more games I've bought, but haven't even started yet.
I also hope I can finally make my setup less of a mess and buy something I can actually set up all my consoles on and easily switch between them.

Because of what happened yesterday I made a new one.

Get 'em, mas.
Re: 2017 Gaming goals and resolutions
I have two goals in mind.
Play and beat more games than I buy/acquire.
Spend less than $30 a month on gaming as a hobby.

Making a modification to mine...
Exhuminator's 2017 gaming goals/resolutions:
1. Get off my ass and get the new dork cave setup and fully functional.
2. Beat Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together.
3. Beat Demon's Souls.
4. Get back into co-op gaming with my wife. Finish all the DS-based Ace Attorney games.*
5. Beat at least five Vita games.
*We've already done three sessions of co-op gaming since I typed this list, so this original resolution was obviously too easy. I've been meaning to finish the Ace Attorney series for years (have only beaten the first two), so I guess it's time to at least finish off the DS entries.

Re: 2017 Gaming goals and resolutions
Regarding 2 of my goals:
Now, actually ripping the game on my PC, moving to PS2 IDE HDD, testing it, & culling off any games I can do without is a lot more time consuming.
The main objective here was to the get this method working and begin creating backups. I need an external drive to truly store .iso files of all my PS2 DVD games also. Success so far! Now I will slowly begin backing up my entire PS2 library which I'm in no rush to finish. Just happy the infrastructure & means to do so are in place.
Regarding digital PS1 games on the PS2 via POPStarter, I am on my way. I have read up on this in detail and watched an in depth tutorial. Step 1 will be running PS1 .cue/.bin files off the PS2 USB port.
Partitioning the internal PS2 IDE HDD drive for PS1 games & then "hooking" this with OPL is fairly involved. Enough so, I'm considering having an entire HDD dedicated to PS1.
I should have POPS running via USB this coming week. Then I'll decide how far I want to go regarding the PS1 off HDD set up.
If USB loading is fairly stable, I may just stick with it. Starting the PS1 games within OPL is a sexy idea but I don't mind starting them via uLaunch (which is the file manager program).
Either way, progress on both those line items! Good start to the annual goals. Already beating last year
!
---- From PS2 Mod Thread ----
1. I did successfully rip a retail game within HD Loader & then load up within OPL.
The transfer typical rate was 941KB to 1000KB per second & it spiked up to 1454KB/s.
A 3GB DVD disc was ripped to HDD in 19 minutes.
For those of you familiar with the oXbox scene. This would be similar to using DVD2Xbox.
2. I upgraded to OPL/Open PS2 Loader version 0.9.3 (from 0.9.2).
There's a default new skin that looks really slick out of the gate. Also, increased compatibility and features reportedly.

3. I did successfully use ImgBurn to rip my retail DVD copies of Resident Evil Code Veronica X and Primal on my PC. I tested both after transferring to PS2 HDD. Cut scenes and gameplay ran flawless with OPL 0.9.3.
I'm actually making quite a bit of headway on both these above. Posted my 3 main updates below from my PS2 mod thread.Jagosaurus wrote:
• Begin ripping my PS2 collection to .iso files on PC (likely using ImgBurn) for playing off PS2 HDD with OPL
‣ Transfer games I want to play first or play often over to internal PS2 HDD via WinHIIP. I have already this working for multiple game .isos downloaded. The goal here is to backup my personal collection and save wear on PS2 disc drive by playing off HDD (see link in signature).
‣ Transfer other games to external storage device (my PS2 HDD is only 250GB).
‣ Respectively trim down the PS2 collection for less collectable/generic titles I don’t mind getting rid of.
‣ I don't really expect to finish this as I own quite a bit of PS2 games, but want to make some headway.
• Install Pop Starter to play PS1 .isos files off modded PS2 via USB & HDD within Open PS2 Loader (OPL)
‣ This is actually a pretty involved homebrew app and will take some tinkering. I'd enjoy getting it working and sharing with forum members. This could really pump life back into any PS2 systems with dead lasers in the future.
