Mine is such a gigantic mess right now that I'd be embarrassed to show it. :(

Seriously, though, probably wouldn't take a whole lot to clean up, but I'm not exactly... organized at times, with systems moving in and out of the rotation as needed.

My idea of new years eve into the early hour of this year was room trashing/remodeling along one wall and part of another. My kitten we got a couple days before Christmas loves to get behind my desk. She discovered to my surprise there's an open hole in the back of my arcade cabinet I forgot about where the power cord comes out from. She's small enough to get in there, found she was sitting around the transformer. Cursed the cat out yelling at her and she bolted.

Not able to seal it ...was at it until a little after 1am sliding my work desk over a foot, moving the 2 wood cube things I have with mostly game stuff in it to the opposite side. And that space where the MVS was now it is where my magnetic bike used to be nearly flush to the wall, and with any gaps closed up so she can't get back inside again.

Didn't want to see a home version of the electrical kitty accident from Christmas Vacation.

I went ahead and edited my original post. Moved this line item below from a general interest to a goal. Although, I don't plan on purchasing one (they're in limited quanitites currently & I'm putting funds towards Jaguar SD cart) this calendar year, this will keep these projects on my radar.

>>
• Research and follow progress on Optical Drive Emulators - ODEs (such as the Dreamcast USB GDROM) and similar solutions (such as Jaguar CD Unleashed, PSIO, Saturn V-CD slot exploit).
>>

Without the expanded explanations or thoughts (written out on pg 6 of this thread), my goals outside of playing particular games:

1. Softmod Wii
2. Get Popstarter app running (PS1 games off PS2 HDD)
3. Order Atari Jaguar SD cart
4. Stay on top of ODEs & similar projects development

Oh, I'll add another one that isn't entirely video game related, but most often is.

4) I'd like to learn to be better at focusing on one thing at a time. I feel like I've gotten so caught up with the time constraints daily life puts on me, and the rush to do so many things, that multitasking has invaded every sector of my life. In particular it damages my enjoyment of video games, as well as other things I do for fun. I find it so hard to just sit their and do one thing, to give it my full attention. I almost always have a youtube video or a podcast playing in the background, I'm always on Skype talking to friends or my girlfriend, etc. When I can't pay attention to just the game/show/book i'm playing/watching/reading, it makes it hard to fully enjoy that experience.
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

I think this is a societal thing at large these days, really. I tend to have TV shows or internet browsing going on in tandem with much of my gaming. I agree at times it does come across as detrimental to the gaming experience. However, if I'm playing a really grindy game, it helps to mitigate the mindless grind.

No denying it. I'm still really picky when I do that, because I don't want to ruin the main experience or anything. But if I'm replaying a game I could careless. Like right now I'm going through Serious Sam again, blasting some podcasts or music on the side and it's awesome.

Doom is one I link strongly to music, pretty much always heavy metal. I had an insane Doom binge like 10 years ago or something and still to this day I associate a lot of albums I was repeating with those memories of Doom and the megawads I was playing. So it's funny how they can crossover.

This all actually makes me excited if I ever get around to Dragon Quest, the grinding probably won't be too bothersome while listening to other stuff on the side. lol

Anyways, in the end I think it's all mostly detrimental to multitask in general and it's not something we were ever built for. Take a breather, slow down, and put your full energy and focus on one thing at a time!

Lately I get really into one game and stick with it for a while. It feels good.

Supposedly cooking Chinese food is one of the best things to do to help prevent Alzheimer's, because there are so many things that need to be juggled, simultaneously, through the process. I may have picked up that tidbit from a Japanese TV show, though, and I'm usually pretty dubious of information I get that way. At any rate, it's possible that multitasking could engender malleability and elasticity (in terms of muscular analogues) in the brain, ultimately benefiting long term mental health.

Mindfulness seems to espouse something a bit contradictory to that idea in its practices of meditatively focusing one's efforts. I'm not necessarily a believer in mindfulness, but a number of years ago I stopped multitasking, and while I can't really say if it's been beneficial to my health at all, I'm mostly incapable of multitasking now, even if I try. About the most I can muster is playing music in the background while doing something that's not cognitively intensive, and would otherwise not have any meaningful sound associated with it.

A lot of modern society is somewhat predicated on the ability to multitask, though.

Yeah, be a pharmacy tech for a few years. Probably took 10 years off my life with how fast paced that crap is. So nice to have a simpler and better paying job now!
