Yeah the thing is I've not played a rails shooter to end that I know of. Mostly because I'm used to having near full control of my character and that threw me off. I'm wanting to give that, shmups, and run n guns a shot. I ought to actually play mercenary kings too. I bought that near launch for it and it deserves to go up there in ones I give a shot. It may just be a sub goal to beating more games that I give certain genres some love. Except fps, I just don't like that at all, NMS may be a exception if I ever get around to giving it a go haven't bought it yet. 3rd person shooters are a lot closer to where I'd go so watch dogs may get a go next year along with the sequel. I started it but never finished the original and hear the sequel is much better.

I'm still thinking of what sort of game goals I want for next year. I've pretty much accepted that my backlog will always be a thing, so I think I want to focus more on beating specfic good games (or games I think that might be good), rather than an amount. So something like "Beat games X, Y, & Z", rather than "Beat a billion games".

Still, I'm not sure what games specifically I want to beat next year, or how many. I've thought about aiming for good RPGs, visual novels, games I've owned for the longest, whatever people suggest me to play (within reason), a mix of those, or maybe something else would be better.

I'm not good at these sorts of decisions so I'm going to have to think about this for a while I think

Then why not compile a standing list using a combination of those criteria and focus on those? Then work your way through that. That's what I'm contemplating doing too, if I can figure out a decent way to post what I have compiled on the app on my phone to ask for suggestions that way(it'd help massively if I could sync the list between phone and bluestacks on the computer). It would definitely provide some guidance for my games to beat next year even though I already know of some quintessentials that will end up on my list anyways.

Time is weird. :P

Not sure if that would burn me out though, but maybe it'd be awesome and I'd really get things done? I guess the two biggest backlogs I have are the PSX and PS2. Maybe a bit daunting since it's a lot of JRPG's. I won't beat myself up though if I don't finish them. Just need some kind of kick to get started or an idea haha.
I think that this is a good goal, and I started something like it with my 3DS digital library this year. If you exclude RPGs from your resolution, you should be able to get through a library fairly quickly, and you should be playing a wide variety of genres to keep the project interesting. Accordingly, I propose a resolution like:

"Play through every non-RPG in my PSX/PS2 library."
I did a very swift count maybe missing some things, but...
22 RPG's on the PSX/PS2
8 non

It'll be rewarding enough for me to give them a shot and move them over though, since I separate my backlog on my shelves thesedays. Helps a lot with the organization and motivation.

I'm still ruminating on what my goals will be. I know what one of them will be though:

Play through Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together on PSP

I'd like to start it before 2017, but with only December left, I just won't have time to complete such a massive game:

I would want to do the "main plus extra", you see. And there's too much real life stuff to deal with in December for that. I don't want to start a game in 2016 and have it carry into 2017. Because closure? Call it closure.
Well I'm not sure what all the PSP version adds, but the extra portion there might just be this massive huge 50 or 100+ some floor optional dungeon at the very end of the game. I did it for a bit to grind a little and get some crazy abilities/items, etc. But yeah didn't sink too much time into it. Kind of like how you can grind out Arc the Lad 1 a lot. Think that also had a huge optional dungeon at the end? I just remember it being a 10 hour game, but you could easily sink another 10 hours into the optional dungeon or something, which I did.

Overall I think I clocked in about 60 some hours on the SNES version of LuCT.

1. Get a Nintendo Switch.
2. Get a RetroUSB AVS + Everdrive.
3. Get an OSSC and maybe sell my last PVM.
4. Get Breath of the Wild, Cuphead, Tekken 7, and MvC Infinite.

General Mods, Flash Carts, etc:
‌• Soft Mod my Wii via LetterBomb method (RVL-001 which is CGN compatible)
‣ Main purpose: Get .iso files for retail Wii & GCN games running.
‣ Secondary purpose: Run emulators for retro systems. I already have multiple emulators running well on the oXbox (see links in signature), but the Wii will become more reliable over time as the big black box isn’t getting any younger.

‌• Begin ripping my PS2 collection to .iso files on PC (likely using ImgBurn) for playing off PS2 HDD with OPL
‣ Transfer games I want to play first or play often over to internal PS2 HDD via WinHIIP. I have already this working for multiple game .isos downloaded. The goal here is to backup my personal collection and save wear on PS2 disc drive by playing off HDD (see link in signature).
‣ Transfer other games to external storage device (my PS2 HDD is only 250GB).
‣ Respectively trim down the PS2 collection for less collectable/generic titles I don’t mind getting rid of.
‣ I don't really expect to finish this as I own quite a bit of PS2 games, but want to make some headway.

‌• Install Pop Starter to play PS1 .isos files off modded PS2 via USB & HDD within Open PS2 Loader (OPL)
‣ This is actually a pretty involved homebrew app and will take some tinkering. I'd enjoy getting it working and sharing with forum members. This could really pump life back into any PS2 systems with dead lasers in the future.

‌• Order the Atari Jaguar SD Flash Cart (link) when pre-orders open
‣ Estimated at 6 months out, by same creator as Lynx SD cart.

‌• Research and follow progress on Optical Drive Emulators - ODEs (such as the Dreamcast USB GDROM) and similar solutions (such as Jaguar CD Unleashed, PSIO, Saturn V-CD slot exploit).

Specific Games:
‌• Finish Doom 3 on oXbox.
‣Halfway done now.

‌• Finish God of War on PS2.
‣Entering last temple/area.

‌• Beat Breath of Fire 2
‣ As part of November together retro

‌• Play Fantasy Zone
‣ As part of August together retro

General Thoughts, Etc:
I have my second kiddo due in March :] so time (and money... and space ) will be limited this year. The 3 modding related line items above will take up a good bit of my time early in the year as I’ll get sidetracked and deep dive into playing games when "testing" functionality 8) !

You'll notice the continued trend towards flash carts, system mods, console based emulation (on Wii, oXbox), and game/system preservation. This part of the hobby has really sucked me in versus amassing a game collection.

I did pick a couple Together Retro games to play with the crew later in the year. I may join in on others if time permits. I don't want to commit to too many games as I'll really be cramming in several 8/16/32/64 bit games in smaller chunks as real life time management allows. Save states on flash carts and in emus really help out here.

Here's to a great 2017!!! :D

The main goal I have for 2017 is to get under 100 Unfinished Games. I am currently at 101, so I don't think it will be that hard. However, the hard part will be staying under 100 from now on. It would be so easy to just buy a few more and completely ruin it.

And just because, let's add some specific goals for each console:

1. NES = Beat Castlevania 3
2. GEN = Beat a Season as Coach in Tecmo Super Bowl
3. SNES = Beat Final Fantasy V
4. N64 = Beat Conker's Bad Fur Day
5. DC = Beat Skies of Arcadia
6. PS1 = Buy A New Game
7. PS2 = Beat Xenosaga
8. GCN = Beat Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
9. XBOX = Complete Crimson Skies

I actually can't believe yours is that low to begin with, Elkin

I just narrowly beat you out with 853 though!
Perhaps I'll try for an easy goal of getting down to under 800

My only specific goal is trying to beat another few Tales games. After I finish Tales of Hearts, I will have finished 5, and the 16th one comes out very very soon. Given that I own 13 of them, I'd like to try and finish another 3 Tales games over the coming year.

Lastly, given that I ended this year in the black for my game purchasing fund, I'm gonna try and do the same thing next year :D

EDIT: I just parsed out the specifics from my giant spreadsheet, and last year I made over $4500 selling off huge parts of my collection, but I spent like $4450 adding new stuff to it. Just seeing the real numbers like that is craaaazy to me, so my addendum resolution is, even if I keep selling stuff, to make that second number go doowwwwn Xp
