It's so much easier to rename your game titles on the PC before you transfer them. It's possible to rename them in OPL, but you have to do it without a keyboard.

Thanks for the tip on Zone of Enders. It was high on my to try list. I'll test it out.

Wait, I thought the file had to be in that naming format? I accidentally misnamed a file and it didn't shown up at all until I named it correctly (I had accidentally put a period rather than underscore after release # IIRC). How do you rename it on PC before transfer & still have OPL recognize it?

Also once on the HDD, assuming you can rename with OPL settings? For example my Star Wars v2 on that list is actually Lego Star Wars (v2 referring to the DVD not CD iso). For whatever reason I didn't catch that naming mistake before transferring over.

It's a good thing when it's working well enough that now I'm interested in file organization :).

Appreciate the help gentlemen.

I haven't used Winhiip in ages, but IIRC you can rename it in HDLdumb before transferring. You can rename it in OPL, but I'd have to look to remember how to do it. Pretty sure it's one of the options for game settings.

In Winhiip, you can rename anything even after the transfer.

Can you do that in HDLdumb too? It's been a while since I've used this stuff.

So I assumed the name had to be that "SLUSxxx.xx_" format due to some something with a retail disc registering to the system for copyright protection & the HDD/OPL mimicking this.

Does changing the name in WINHIIP somehow keep this intact & change the display menu name only?

Just curious on why/how the naming convention is needed if you can somehow change it.

Never had to put my files in a specific naming format using WinHIIP. OPL recognizes them just fine.

That code is present in the ISO image itself, regardless of what you name it. If you open an ISO with 7-zip, you'll see that SLUS code in there. I'm assuming OPL checks for this code here, and it doesn't care what the file name is.

Ok, think I figured it out. I was USB loading (IIRC, 95% sure) when I had the naming issue. Looks like when using USB, it has to be in correct folder (CD, DVD) and named correctly for OPL to recognize it. I tested USB first before diving into HDD so I assumed the same naming convention was needed for the HDD route. Looks like I don't need to :)

Possibly. I'll have to check next time I have a PS2 hooked up to PC. I am in-between computers right now (moving from a very old WinXP setup to an only mostly old Win7 setup). Sometime next week I plan to try out Guitar Hero on HDD, so I'll know then.

Good to know. I haven't tried USB, but would like to for CD based games sometime (as read speed is less of an issue for those games).
I think the partition names themselves need the correct naming (which Winhiip/HDLdumb takes care of for you), but the name stored in the game list can be any nonsense you would like.
