Angela, then Kevin then Carri.MrPopo wrote:Who was the first character you picked? Was it Angela or one of the other two?
I'm about five hours in now, just arrived at the Wind City.
I'm trying to do a genuine blind run of the game in that I will not look at any guides (although I might ask for hints on here). So far it's been much more logical than Phantasia was and I've found my way around well.
I don't really understand which skills I should be levelling up or what they all do though as obviously my repro cart didn't come with instructions.
I'm mostly controlling Angela but switching to Kevin for harder fights as he is more powerful at Melee and the computer's default AI for him seems poor.
To clarify. The first time I played SoM I found it boring and uninteresting. I think I had read too many years of hype and it's plain go from A to B story didn't do much for me.
The second time around I enjoyed it a lot more because I could be more accepting of it.
Both runs I never actually beat it though so it didn't keep my interest. it was a pretty game but the vanilla story didn't interest me like it's sequel's has so far.
I recall having Sword of Mana on GBA and becoming frustrated by it's poorly paced save points that required five minute cut scenes to be replayed again and again if you died.

The main non-obvious things with regards to stats:
Int is for magic, Spi is for healing
Dex doesn't do much due to bugs

I had presumed that Vitality is health, strength is attack power, intelligence was related to magic, Agility something to with with defence/hit damage and luck item pickups.
Any point in increasing Kevin's intelligence? Does he learn magic?
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
As I recall certain high end classes for Kevin will want some Spirit.
Another thing you will discover; classes have stat caps. If you are constantly raising the top two stats for a character (say, Str and Vit for Kevin) then as you get close to the level for class changing you'll find you've capped the stat and need to spread it into other stats. There's a corollary to this: when you class change all your stats are boosted to the caps from your previous class. So neglecting some stats because you don't need them in your current class is fine; you'll get boosted to where you need to be when you class change.

All yall Wii U owners need to get Tokyo Mirage Sessions ASAP. It's an Atlus game that's exclusive to an unpopular console, so you know it's going to be hella rare 10 years from now, but it's also a DAMN good game. It legit feels like Persona except that the demons we all know and love are replaced by Fire Emblem characters (although it REALLY irks me that Sheeda's name was localized as "Caeda" in the game when you can clearly hear the characters pronounce it "Sheeda").

It's consistent with how they localized it in Shadow Dragon.

If I didn't care for how Persona 4 handled its writing, is there any reason for me to be interested in TMS?ElkinFencer10 wrote:All yall Wii U owners need to get Tokyo Mirage Sessions ASAP. Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
I'm 5 hours into the SRPG Mystaria/Blazing Heroes on Saturn.
I'm fairly impressed so far. The concept of leveling up your character as normally seen in JRPGs being one system, then "Technique leveling" being another system entirely is interesting. EXP seems to be evenly distributed after battles (only get 1/2 EXP if you die/expire). Then technique EXP is separated based upon attacks/magic used. This adds a level of strategy. Think your sword characters magic is weak? Start using this attack to level up the related technique.
I will admit the menu system is a bit clunky but 5 hours in I'm accustom to it. "C" versus "A" is used as the select button. Took me a bit to discover how to map newly learned techniques to my quick menu, in order to be used in battle. I even had a new character join my party with available attacks not yet "mapped."
That also brings me to my next point, you can only have 9 attacks/techniques mapped to your quick menu. This adds another level of strategy. Which techniques will help you advanced through the map... or which techniques do you need to level up.
The energy stat is also notable. Say "long shot" for your archer requires 1 energy. This means, if your max squares to move is 5, you can only use long shot when you move 4 spaces (5 - 1). It is not usable when you move 5 grid squares.
I dig the graphical style. Some might think it has aged rough being a 3D 32 bit title, but there's a certain charm IMO.
More to come. I'm leveling up in Spirit & Ingress Forest before entering the Dragoon Castle.
We need 12 Warriors to defeat Bane!

Yes, I didn notice that sometimes you don't have the option to raise certain stats.MrPopo wrote:As I recall certain high end classes for Kevin will want some Spirit.

I read in one of the libraries that the first class change doesn't occur until level 18. I'm only level 9 at the moment.
One of the few complaints I have with the game right now is the clunkiness of shops. You can't just easily view what items will do to each character in your party. You have to swap them over manually and worse, when it comes to selling items it seems that you have to switch characters before speaking to the shopkeeper to sell your old gear for each character.
