Well theres your problem. Using the internet will only get you so far. You can't really know how reliable someone is going to be over the long term via e-mail, and it is really easy to flake on someone who you never met in real life and will likely never meet if shit gets hard or it turns out you don't like the script. Plus- although students work cheap/free students often lack a certain professionalism. Thats the reason that seasoned companies ask for experience. I would say that out of my graduating class maybe 7 of the people in my department were ready to work. It sucks because you have to spend a bit to get out to them, but really the convention is really your best bet. Simply because you have to spend some cash to get out to them, it weeds out people who don't really want to work. I would avoid sandiego because it is so huge that it is mostly movie deals and that sort of thing, but all other cons are fair game.
