@Ack, the Jason Goes to He'll poster always stuck with me as well. I remember the Freddie cameo more than the movie itself though. That tells me something lol.

Well I knocked out another one of my list:
Cabin Fever (2002)

Image

This one is written and directed by Eli Roth who also did Hostel and the recent cannibal flick, The Green Inferno. With that pedigree, you know you're in for some gruesome scenes. My wife & I actually went on a date as teenagers to see this... on her birthday. Yikes! I have no idea how I talked her into that one! Luckily, the movie also has a sense of humor to accompany the gore. The local cop character is hilarious and deserves a mention.

You have your typical group of college students, wait.....Shawn from Boy Meets World!?... headed to the woods for a get away from finals. That never ends well kids. You quickly get introduced to the back woods folks & to any one who has seen this, you'll remember Dennis. "Don't sit next to Dennis!" Soon after arriving at the cabin and of course partying, a diseased man stumbles into their camp & the aftermath follows as the group attempts to avoid becoming the next set of victims.

Overall, this movie does a great job of making you want to avoid an isolated cabin & has you wondering what you'd do if an obviously infections individual knocked on your door. Also, would you quarantine your own friend to stay well?

You will cringe many times & laugh a handful. I think the movie accomplished what Eli Roth set out for. I can recommend this one. Oh yeah and... "PANCAKES!"

House IV

Years ago I caught part of this flick on television. The scene involves our heroine, Kelly, discovering that her pizza has a face right before it attacks her. This was forever burned into my brain apparently, because when I encountered that scene again on YouTube a few months ago, I immediately recalled it and decided I needed to track it down. This led me to find House 4. Hey, I thought to myself, I enjoyed the first House movie. Why not check out the rest of the series? Since then, I've seen the sequel, House 2: The Second Story, and now I have gotten to watch House IV: The Repossession. While House 2 is ridiculous enough to see in its own right, House 4...not so much. It just doesn't live up to what I want it to be. Turns out the Pizza Man scene is the best bit of the film. This is...unfortunate. But the Pizza Man scene is really catchy.

In this movie, William Katt plays Roger Cobb again, returning from the original film. But now he is married with a daughter, and the house is out west somewhere sitting on top of an Indian burial ground. Roger gets killed, and his daughter, Laurel, is paralyzed, leaving Kelly to take things over. She has to contend with her broken family, try to fix up the house, deal with her brother-in-law, Burke, and figure out why blood flows out of the pipes and strange noises come from the basement.

That could potentially be a fun setup for a horror movie, but House 4 ruins it by not being sure whether it wants to be serious or comedy and then completely failing to be either. Burke wants to raze the house for a midget mob boss to use as a toxic waste dumping ground, and he has his two joker goons to help him out. So far the mob has avoided EPA regulation by spraypainting the word NON- in front of TOXIC WASTE on their barrels, but the government is investigating! Suddenly, this is a bad episode of Captain Planet. Oh, and the mob boss is bilious, so we get a great torture scene where Burke is forced to drink a cup full of phlegm.

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if it didn't go for the total cheeseball ending either. Burke's goons set fire to the house, but suddenly the ancient Indian burial ground erupts in a geyser of water! Laurel can miraculously walk again! Roger's soul passes on! The maid really works for the FBI! It's like a bad after school special about pollution, ghosts, and relations with Native Americans. "Hey kid, your dad is still dead, but isn't it great to not be paralyzed?" It's a shame this series ended up getting so way off course.

This movie also gives me lamp dog. I just...I just can't. I'm sorry, I can't. Whatever potential this movie had, it loses it. Too bad. I still need to see House 3: The Horror Show, which is not related in any way.

My progress so far:

Housebound

I was looking up horror movies on Netflix and came across this. I enjoyed it. I don't think I'd call it a horror movie, it's more like a mystery-comedy with a creepy haunted house theme. Opening scene involves robbing an ATM with a stick of dynamite. Yeeeaah.

Next I'm gonna watch...

House of the Devil

It's a newer movie (2009 I think) that supposedly captures the feel of 70s/80s horror. Looking forward to it. Also on Netflix.

I'm pretty sure The House of the Devil even had a limited-edition VHS release because the creators wanted it to be as much as a throwback as possible to the 80s "golden age" of horror. I feel like that alone gives it cool-points.

I just finished watching Terror in the Swamp, a weird horror movie from the 80s about a giant nutria (coypu/swamp rat) that's more like a bigfoot and has, to this day, never been released on any home video format except VHS.
It's the worst B-movie I've seen in MANY YEARS outside of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and I was COMPLETELY SATISFIED.

Well, I'm gonna consider Soma my horror game for the purposes of this thread as I recently finished it. For anyone who is planning on playing it (Stark), you might want to check this out afterwards.

Were the gameplay a little less rough around the edges and more interesting, Soma would be another game of the year contender for me (Until Dawn is my current front runner) just based on its amazing, memorable story alone. It is one of the greatest video game stories I have ever experienced.
