However, word on the street is that it's going to be closer to Rolling Thunder than Contra. No idea about the other versions, but they look more like Contra than Rolling Thunder to me.

You might be surprised. The PCE actually has a pretty robust currently out or in-progress homebrew scene. Also there's a lot of translation activity on the platform as well right now.

You know, I always wondered why the PCE never had a good Rolling Thunder or Rolling Thunder 2 port. Namco didn't exactly avoid the platform.

Did anyone download the promo demo for dreamcast from the Kickstarter site? I'm curious if that gives you a good impression and feel for the game.

There's nothing playable in that demo, it's just (mostly) the same promotional art you can see on the KS page. Somebody recorded the whole thing. It's exactly like it says in the description "You'll be able to see some cool promotional art, running on the real hardware.", nothing more.

They didn't to any development work prior to the kickstarter, because the success or failure of the kickstarter determined if they were even able to secure the license.

Not long now, it will soon be funded :)

Although for some reason, the funding seems to have ground to a halt... It was climbing up at a decent pace over the last day and now it's kinda died with 16 hours to go. Pretty weird. I'm sure I'll wake up to find that it gained some more funding in the last couple of hours. Hopefully we reach that first stretch goal at least, even though it's not much.

It would have been nice to get the Wii U, PS4, XBOne (and even SNES/SFC) ports etc, but I don't really care, because, well... Yay Dreamcast! Yay PC-Engine!

Yes, but you price will probably make you feel unclean afterwards.
