Re: Retro PC Gaming?

I'd definitely go for Windows 98 SE. XP wont support many DOS games well, but, there's not a huge reason to just use DOS on that machine either. Some software designed for 386 might not run correctly on that machine anyway FYI. Speed-limiting code wasn't included in all games for quite a long perio...

Re: Retro PC Gaming?

One thing nice about DOS Floppy Drive games is most of them are a full install to the hard drive. Once installed, the floppy can be put away. The installed games can also easily be backed up to a CDR since the entire game resides in its own directory and not partially buried in a Windows system fil...

Re: Retro PC Gaming?

I bought an old Pentium II 350 mhz 256mb ram machine many years ago at a yard sale for $5. I intend to use this computer solely as a gaming machine for my vintage collection (think Duke Nukem, Myth, World of Warcraft II, Quake, etc.). As I would like to also use the machine for even older games lik...

Re: Retro PC Gaming?

Yes, I am reviving this thread, but I have a good reason. I bought an old Pentium II 350 mhz 256mb ram machine many years ago at a yard sale for $5. I've recently gotten it out, purchased a decent keyboard/mouse/flatscreen at the thrift store (all told, I have $35 invested) and have started getting ...

Re: What are you listening to at the present? (genres helpfu

I know it's supposed to be cheesy to like 80s music. But I don't care. I've been blasting some Metallica, Scorpions, Pink Floyd, Queensryche, and Alice Cooper today and loving it! \m/ Queensryche is quite awesome. Saw them in the 90's about a half dozen times and then twice more since 2000. 80's ru...

Re: The End of Nintendo Power

I was the first kid at my school to get Nintendo power as my parents subscribed me. I had it up until college in 1994. It replaced my Ranger Rick magazine subscription, thankfully, and I devoured every issue every month. I won a subscriber contest in the late 80's and was awarded V-Spike Volleyball,...

Re: What game are you most proud of in your collection?

As far as a system goes, I'd be most proud of my Lynx that I bought new when I was 15. I still have all the games for it. I'd also have to throw my Turboduo in there. Games...well I'm pretty happy with my CIB copies of Final Fantasy 2 and 3 for the SNES, CIB Phantasy Star IV...I also had a CIB copy ...
