Tetris DS Announced – With Wifi!
The original Tetris game for the original Gameboy is still one of the best mobile games IMO. When you remember its age, it is astounding how well the game holds up in the areas of pick-up-and-playablity, addictiveness, and pure fun the now not-so-little cartridge contains.
Now that we have progressed through a long stint with the Gameboy Advance and are now starting out in DS Land, that original GB cart is looking a little long in the tooth. You may ask, “Why doesn’t someone take the exact same game, spruce up the colors, and port it to a newer handheld?” Well, someone kinda has. THQ did release Tetris Worlds on the Gameboy Advance. However, I think they tried too hard to make it unique instead of sincerely improving the original.
Now its the DS’s turn to finally provide a real quality Tetris game. The title has been on EBGames’ release list for a while, but we never knew much more than that until now. Today, Nintendo officially announced Tetris DS and has actually shared some additional details. Not only with Tetris DS be online ready through Nintendo WiFi Connection services, but it will also include the following features:
- Online ranking
- Nintendo-themed Playfields
- Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda and Metroid
- Single-cart Multiplay
- Local Matches with up to 10 Players
- 2 or 4 players online battles.
UPDATE: Even more info about features
Tetris DS will be released on March 20th

Awesome information you got! I’ve heard of Tetris DS before, but I had no idea of the multiplayer/online capabilities. I’ve played Tetris almost my whole life, and now I can get Tetris + a lot more.
