Hurricane Harvey - TX & LA Members Okay?

Post by Jagosaurus »

I know we have 5 or so active Houston members & at least 3 folks from SW Louisiana (Vinton, Lake Charles, NOLA/BR). Everyone and their families okay? Anyone down by Corpus/Rockport/Victoria? Amazingly, eye passed right over my buddy's home down there and the house is ok.

My exit (a major one) off Interstate 45 & also off Grand Parkway 99 is completely blocked off due to record flooding. Marshals not letting anyone through. Thousands of families with no power. They were doing boat rescues in the front of my neighborhood. Scary. Sounds like we got some water in our house. We have flood insurance. It will be okay. We are evacuated & cannot get back. I should have left a key with our neighbors who stayed, but we left flustered and in a hurry to be honest. I have 2 small kiddos I was worried about.

@Jmustang, y'all ok over there? I can't even get to Rayford. I can help you once I'm back if you need anything man.

@Joe, your parents ok? That area looked to be in the most tornado ridden areas.

@8bit, you away from those 2 major reservoirs?

This video is the front of my neighborhood. It got a few feet higher.

Video actually looks clear on your phone if you're interested. Shot taken vertically but PC facebook stretches it.

This is off Beltway 8, roughly 60 miles inland from the coast:

You are seeing independent rescue boats here.

This is my home:

Water continued to rise for several hours after this. My small tree to the right. Taken from my neighbors upstairs window.

I have a tall slab. It is roughly halfway up it here.

Right when my neighbors had to stop taking photos due to power outages.

There are homes completely underwater... we will likely have some damage but nothing too crazy hopefully. Others have lost it all. We live half a mile from a decent size creek that flows into a major river. This water is from that... over half a mile away... due to the record amount of rainfall. They're calling this a thousand year flood. Houston so far has 42" of rain  Winds were at 140mph in Rockport when it hit .

Please continue to pray for families in our community. As you've seen from the picture above with the boats, we're a strong group of people who lend a helping hand. I do think most people are still in shock a bit. We'll get through this. All the relief efforts from neighboring counties and states is greatly appreciated. Saw another poster on a local forum get saved by a group from Louisiana.

Havery is currently headed back to SETX/SWLA border. Stay safe guys.

I've been in touch with John (JMustang), who seems to have been spared any home flooding/damage so far.

That is great to hear. Brand new house with kiddos. I was praying for them. Thanks Dave.

My thoughts are with every member affected by this. Actually my thoughts are with everyone who is affected by Hurricane Harvey. As someone who was affected by Hurricane Sandy I know exactly how you guys feel right now.

Well i'm alright and so is my family. We've had no flooding in my neighborhood but we still have at least two or three more solid days of strong rain ahead. I might not be able to make it into work tomorrow though, the interstate already had standing water in the leftmost lane on my commute today. The back paths are all flooded over already and have been for a few days now. Jag, man i'm sorry to hear about your house but at least you and your family all made it out ok. Hope everyone else in the affected area is doing ok.

I should've thought to reach out to you sooner. I think your house was fine until Monday, as I went and grabbed Double Daves Sunday, and it wss flooded Monday.

We were really lucky. Discovered a small roof leak the builder will have to fix. Other than that, the water never pooled in the street. However, I found we were even luckier than I knew, as the San Jacinto river nearly made it to my property. It over ran an elevated highway 99 a bit down the road.

Someone from the neighborhood posted this drone video. In the first 3 seconds, the drone is really close to my house, as it pans left at the 2 or 3 second mark right before it switches views, I can see the power line pole right behind my house in the bottom left corner of the shot. So the river was not very far at all.

I had many friends and some family that had to be evacuated and basically lose their cars and significant home damage. I hope your house fared well!! We have been locked in our island here, but at least the Kroger has been open and mostly stocked.

I text Flake at some point most days (the bromance is real), and he's doing fine - San Antonio is far enough inland not to get slammed - just a lot of rain on his end.

Glad to hear all is relatively ok so far.
I went to school in the Gulf Coast for a while. I don't miss hurricane season. We never personally had one as bad as this or Katrina, but it was nerve racking and remember dealing with damage and going through flooded/torn up parts of town.

I can't imagine having to deal first-hand with that amount of flooding. Worst stuff we had was certain streets that dipped down, you couldn't drive through without flooding your car. And of course, we didn't have power/hot water for a week or more. I remember going to Wal-Mart a few days later seeing picked over shelves and trying to soak up the "air conditioning" from the dairy/frozen section.

Anyway, stay safe and I hope recovery happens quicker than expected!

I'm fine, and my mom's fine, Jag. Power went out and the water got high, but not in her house. BCS wasn't too bad except for the dirty creeks which filled up. 8bit's a stone's throw from me in Houston, but the situation could be different for him. I'll send him a text to see what's up.

Edit: 8bit's doing ok. I'll let him follow up.
