CRT best connections for all retro

Post by alexretro »

I own:

NES
SNES
N64
Genesis
Dreamcast
Saturn
Gamecube
Wii
Ps1
Ps2
all of these are better on crt, while my 360 and ps3 are good on my LCD.

what is the best way to connect to my crt? i have s-video, component and composite. and audio video out? I use the RED, White, Yellow on all my systems. Let me know which is best for each. my tv is a phillips 27 flat crt from 2003. amazing color.

Slow down on the all-caps. Anyway, a SCART to component converter is a box that converts RGB signals into component video. Basically you plug a SCART cable that uses the RGB signals from the consoles I listed, and out comes component video. It's far better than composite and S-video, no color bleeding, dot crawl or any other nasty artifacts. The only downside is that the converter does not pass through audio, so you'll either need to mod the converter with audio cables or jacks, or get a SCART cable with the audio split off into separate wires. You'll find everything you need on eBay.

You could also pick this up, which is a SCART passthrough and has audio jacks: http://tinyurl.com/cyg3hnn

You don't want either of those as they'll produce a dark image. Instead you need to look for PAL GameCube SCART cables, and of course you need to make sure to get one with RGB as opposed to one that just carries composite.

RGB Scart is a dangerous rabbit hole that'll have you hemorrhaging money like you wouldn't believe. ...and you'll love spending all that money.
