Hosts File not working...

Post by elmagicochrisg »

My hosts file, which worked fine on my old PC does not work on the new one...

Old PC: 32bit Vista / Avast! Antivirus

New PC: 64bit Windows 7 / Microsoft Security Essentials

This is the hosts file I use: http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/

Any help would be appreciated... ^^

Done!...

- Uninstalled MSE and installed Avast! again.
- Used CCleaner's junk files cleaner and registry fixer.
- Restarted PC.

Seems to do the job... ^^

I'm far from a computer expert, but something tells me fixing the registry was what took care of the problem...

CCleaner's the best and was probably what fixed it. I use the MVP Hosts file at winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm

Yup, CCleaner is always one of the first programs I download after a fresh OS install... ^^

Thanks for the link. Always nice to have a good backup list...

If you hadn't yet rebooted after dropping in the custom hosts file, that might have been it too.

Nope, that's always the first thing I try...

(rebooted a few times while trying to fix this)
