Your ultimate gaming triumphs!

Post by dreamcast4ever83 »

I though it would be intresting to here about your ultimate gaming triumphs. You can list just your score or also list the story behind it if it has one. My motivation was a high score i obtained when I was 16 on a game called mouse trap for the coleco vision.

High score: 1,435,000

The story is, my brother and I were hardcore into games (nothing's changed), we had pretty much every system for that time (dreamcast, n64, ps1) and my brother pointed out that I'm pretty kick ass at any game I played, then he said if I was REALLY that good at video games, I should try playing some classic atari or coleco.

From that point on, for the next 6 months, we had collected many many retro systems. One, of course, being a beautiful leather covered coleco-vision.
After playing through quite a few random games, from pac-man to the smurfs :P, I stumbled upon Mouse Trap... Which I thought looked like a fun pac-man clone.. But ultimately figured out there was a lot more to it. (If you have not played this game and are looking for a challenge, you should pick this up)

To make a long story short, I start playing it casually, which led to two hours later, still playing, hadn't lost all my lives, building my score (at about 600,000 or so) which led to 4 hours later, me break 1million, which I was striving very hard to get once i knew it was achievable. My eyes were aching, I was starting to see things, I was so zoned in I could not stop playing. Which ultimately led to, after breaking 1million, the screen began to flicker and distort, which any of you know a classic game like that can go one forever until it glitches out, as of this point I was happy and I wanted the game to end. But still full of lives I strived through the glitchy path of no return, I finally made it to the max score above, and I feel I could have gone further if I could have paused the game and took a short break... But I truly pushed mine, and the game's limits. I still consider this to be a proud moment of gaming for me and needless to say my brother bowed to me and said "Okay, you're kickass."

So let me ask you, what is your most triumphant moment in video gaming?

100%-ing (or rather, 99%-ing) Medal of Honor on the PS1. It's far from my actual greatest triumph, but I was only 10 and it was the first game I ever totally and completely beat. The triumphant feeling was much stronger for this than anything else just because it was the first time.

I played an 8 hour game of Extend Every Extra Extreme a few years ago with a final score over 292 trillion. Unfortunately I had started it later in the evening, so I eventually petered out because I was really tired. Could have slept with it paused and come back to it, but I let it go.

I guess mine's beating Contra: Shattered Soldier with all S-ranks, without dying or continuing.

Ouch that sounds really harsh. Can you cancel a level if you get damaged without needing to start the whole game, at least?

...maybe? Not sure, haha.

You could actually save in between levels on easy mode. Still loads of repetition and mastering the levels. The boss rush, fighting the 8 robot masters and Wily's two forms at the end, all in one run, was probably the hardest thing I've ever conquered in a game. Controllers were almost broken. lol
