Too much Lego?

It was nice witnessing Lego make a comeback after nearing the brink of collapse, but it seems it's become a craze that's filling up every other blog. When something becomes this mainstream it loses much of its creative/derivative/amusing value.

All those Lego Batman/Star Wars/etc games are pretty corny.

(My wife thought 3D Dot Game Heroes was a Lego game)

I really like legos, but they cost entirely too much. I think they've driven the costs up with all the licensing, textured bricks, tons of colors, and other specialty stuff. All that doesn't make the legos more fun though.

I don't' remember where I read this, but apparently the manufacturing process has gotten a lot more expensive as well.

I remember when there was just Legos, no Harry Potter, or Star Wars, or Batman Legos, just Legos. That's all we had as a kid. We had to figure out what to build on our own. I was never all that artistic, my creations were usually tall buildings, lol. There was a Castle set and a Pirate Ship set (nothing licensed, though), so we weren't completely on our own. But I never got those.

The Castle sets! Remember the Robin Hood-esque forest bandits?

I always wanted to make the Star Wars Star Destroyer. It was like 4 or 5 feet long and (quite literally) thousands of pieces.

Was considering buying a bunch of legomen to use as simple miniatures for my D&D games. They're all stupidly expensive though.

I'm always amused when I see the licensed Indiana Jones sets, because I remember Johnny Thunder.

They used to have so many different themes: Space, ninjas, underwater, insects, cowboys, indians...

The Castle-themed legos and the space-themed legos were my favorites.

You mean Dark Forest?

I also felt like Wolfpack was influenced by Robin Hood.

I really liked the Dragon Knights

By the way, if you find legos nostalgic, check out http://www.brickset.com/.

It's 3' long and 3000 pieces. Then there's the Death Star II, which is also 3000 pieces, and the Millenium Falcon, which is 5000 pieces. I've got the Star Destroyer and the Falcon set up, still need to rebuild the Death Star II. And I need to ship my 2000 piece Corellian Corvette from my parents' house, since I forgot to have it be sent out here when I first moved.
