Saturn no longer works after installing mod chip

Post by lxNoMaDxl »

I just installed my mod chip and the lens on my Saturn no longer moves to read a disk. Did I break my Saturn while installing the chip?

What model of Saturn do you have? (32-pin/64-pin/Sanyo)
Did you go through this?:

32-Pin
I pulled out the mod chip, but i didn't disconnect the wires that I soldered and it still didn't work. Maybe the solder on the main chip is touching another of the connections I'll go back and check that out.

I pulled out all the wires and took off as much of the soldering as I could. I made sure that nothing was touching anything that it shouldn't and the lens still does not move.

Well there must be something messing up somewhere.
Just having the chip installed wouldn't kill a Saturn on its own.

What exactly is the Saturn doing/saying now?

The lense not moving/powering is a symptom of one of three things:

1) The modchip isn't getting power. This is probably due to the red wire not being soldered strongly enough.
2) The CD-ROM cable/ribbon isn't connected securely enough.
3) Two or more of the pins on the BIOS chip (where the blue wire goes) are bridged. Check them with a multimeter.

Those would be the top 3 things I'd look for first.
If you removed the chip completely and it still doesn't work, it's most likely #3.

Let us know!
