Japanese Titles Translated Into English
These are Japanese titles translated DIRECTLY into English.
If you ever wondered what some titles meant, here is a short list.
Some sound lame when translated, some sound cool. You be the judge!
A note for those studying Japanese: Many of these titles use uncommon grammar or kanji subtitutes for more commonly used kanji to make the title more appealing.
Tell me what you think! Of course, feel free to add your own.
DonPachi: The Bee Boss
DoDonPachi: The Angry Bee Boss
DoDonPachi Dai Oujou: The Angry Bee Boss Peaceful Death
NOTE: The "DON" in "DONPACHI" is actually English (Well, Italian/Spanish/Portuguese). The first two kanji (首領) in DonPachi read as "Shuryou" which means "oyabun" in this context. And for those of you who watch yakuza movies, you probably know "oyabun" means "the don" (mafia boss), hence "DonPachi". That should give you a little context of as to what kind of "boss" this bee is.
Cho Aniki: Super Brother
Mushihimesama: The Insect Queen
Mushihimesama Futari: The Two Insect Queens
Shikigami No Shiro: Castle of God's Order (This is VERY difficult to translate which is probably why the US version kept the Japanese name)
Soukyugurentai: Crimson Lotus Regiment
Batsugun: Eminence
Gekirindan: Bullets Of Imperial Wrath
Ibara: Blossoming Rose
Ketsui: Determination
Kaitai Daisensou: Deepsea War ("in the hunt" in the US)
Shippu Mahou Daisakusen Kingdom Grand Prix: Hurricane Magic Strategy Kingdom Grand Prix
Note: Some people think it is "Hurricane Magic Armageddon". That is false.
Sengoku Blade: Warring States Blade
Shinrei Jusatsushi Taroumaru: Ghost Killer Taromaru (This is the proper, direct translation)
Garou Densetsu: Legend of the Hungry Wolf (bka Fatal Fury)
Ryuuko no Ken: Dragon Tiger Fist (Art of Fighting)
Daiku No Gensan: Gen the Carpenter (Hammerin Harry)
Seiken Densetsu: Legend Of The Holy Sword (Secret of Mana)
That is all I came up of off the top of my head. If you have a title you would like translated, post it up!

how about ikaruga? =D
Mozgus wrote:The problem with that advice is that the "quit it" portion of the process becomes much more complicated after the "hit it" maneuver has been completed. Much easier to "quit it" before all else.aaron wrote:hit it and quit it. i am certain mozgus is correct.

Ikaruga = Japanese Grosbeak, a type of finch.
Re: Japanese Titles Translated Into English
i always thought "no" indicated some sort of possesion, like "of" or "(blank)'s" or something. shikigami no shiro for example. why is this different? genuinely curious here, not calling anyone out, i don't know shit about japanese.Ryuuko no Ken: Dragon Tiger Fist (Art of Fighting)
Daiku No Gensan: Gen the Carpenter (Hammerin Harry)

"Shinrei Jusatsushi Taroumaru: Ghost Killer Taromaru (This is the proper, direct translation)"
Now that's just plain awesome. I played the SHmess out of this game with a friend of mine a few years back, as 'Psychic Killer'. Cool to know it's actual name.
I've always wondered if Doshin (from Doshin The Giant) meant anything in Japanese or if it was just a clever name?
