I honestly didn't even remember this one launch on PC back in the day. I remember VII on the PC mostly, because it was in one of those oddly shaped Eidos boxes.Ack wrote:Huh, so Final Fantasy 8 is now on Steam.
I already own this on PSN, but I'll probably pick this up when the price is right. If I can play a game with Steam features, I usually pick that route.
As far as RPG progress goes, I'm working on Lunar: SSSC and Windwaker HD. I just reached Meribia. I stopped before going chasing the thief through the sewers. I hate going through there having to use Ramus in my party. I hate his terrible speed. I hate that he doesn't gain anything on level ups. I hate nearly everything about him.
I just finished the Dragon's Roost Cavern in Windwaker. I thought it was on the very easy side as far as Zelda dungeons go, but I've heard that's a common theme for the game. That being said, it definitely was still enjoyable. Few games give me the same sense of accomplishment as clearing a dungeon in a Zelda game...even an easy one.

Re: RPG Progress Report
Yeah, XIII is way linear compared to a normal JRPG like VII. I mean, in VII you have so many choices when you hit that world map. You could walk straight to Kalm... or you could zig-zag to Kalm... or you could just never go to Kalm and not progress the game at all! Ah, freedom.Sload Soap wrote:So, FF13 will eventually open up and be more like a normal JRPG at some point then?
(Just being silly, but I do think its odd that XIII gets bashed for being linear, when, at most, FF games give you the illusion of not being linear. They all are though.) The game opens up at the end just like X, and gives you access to a ton of stuff to do. Easily more stuff to do at the end of XIII than in the older games. If your brother liked killing stuff in the Monster Arena in X, and enjoyed hunting down Yiazmat in XII, then I think he would like XIII too. I'd probably be wrong though
...Anyways, I got distracted from Legend of Heroes, as Rogue Legacy went on sale and I ended up plowing through that. So, now (Thanks to Bone revealing that Mother 3 is a must-play for me), I am playing through Earthbound (Zero? I dunno, the NES Proto). I just bought myself a nice Wooden Bat, so hopefully now the zombies won't rape me.
Pretty fun so far! Lets see if I can stick with it.
Re: RPG Progress Report
I have been putting a lot of time into Dragon Quest VII(my very first entry/time playing any Dragon Quest game) and as of now I am almost finished with the Krage area. I am currently stuck at the WolfDevil boss but once I heal I plan on taking him down like the bitch he is so I can continue to the Litorud area. This is ofcourse the english translations of the towns/boss as I am playing the japanese version. I am about 70 hours into the game at this point.
I must admit however as my first foray into the Dragon Quest universe this game is pretty damn fun and I am enjoying it quite a bit. I might have to eventually import Dragon Quest VIII for PS2 as well as the Dragon Quest V remake for PS2 as I might have found yet another RPG series I am enjoying a lot. Just thought i'd add that as I am proud of how far i've gotten into this game so far
Will add another update once I am much further and or when my package from japan gets here and I start/make progress into one of the games I get from there

One huge advantage that Earthbound Zero has over the original Mother is the addition of the run button. I didn't even realize that the original game lacked one until I bought a Famicom cart.dunpeal2064 wrote: So, now (Thanks to Bone revealing that Mother 3 is a must-play for me), I am playing through Earthbound (Zero? I'm still playing The Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermillion. I like it, but the amount of dialogue is killing me.

Be ready for 80-100 hours in DQVII. The DS remake of DQV is one of my favorite games of all time. Everything just feels right & very addictive. Multiple "paths" (can't really expand w/o spoilers) & after game dungeons. The monster catching was in the original super famicom original so it doesn't feel like Pokemon & creating a diverse party really adds to the game.
I had just finished grad school & now that I had time for RPGs I started back... what a title to pick up after my RPG hiatus!

For some reason, I am not a fan of handhelds though I know there are many good games released for PSP/NDS/3DS and such. I still have fond memories of my younger years getting pokemon blue for gameboy when it came out and playing it for hours in middle school. Since I started learning japanese I actually picked up Pocket Monsters Aka(red) and have gotten really far in that. Its the only handheld RPG or game im playing at all but i've since put it aside since I started DQ VII. And once my package from Japan gets here it'll sit for even longer as i'll have plenty of "Tales of" games to play as well as FFX International and FF X-2 International+Last Mission. I am not sure why I am not fond of handheld games much but that's just me.
I do not expect to be close to the end of DQ VII till im a good 130+ hours into it. But as I said, I want to put as much time into it as I can as once my Tales of games come, they will take priority. I am really excited to play the updated Tales of Destiny Directors Cut and Tales of Symphonia for PS2. I've heard good things about both, as well as Rebirth which is also coming. Different package, but once ToD2 gets here I wont play it till I finish ToD DC but im excited to know i'll have ToD's only sequel to play...wootness.
I am glad to hear good things about DQ V. Makes me more excited and gives me more ambition to track down the PS2 remake.
