While we're on the topic, here's a picture of what someone wrote in the notes section of my MMX manual.

Note = Mega Man X is a very hard game. If you want to impress your friends, these codes are very useful. Most of them have you with only a few people to beat. For Chill Pengun, jump into a corner when he shoots ICE! BEWARE & good LUCK!

It just so happens there's something close to that. Check out the 62 Track OCRemix Album, Maverick Rising.

And on the subject of how awesome Boomer Kuwanger is, I found out not long ago that he's actually, like the rest of the bosses, based on a real animal, the Kuwagata Beetle:

If I remember right, Kuwagata got messed up in the translation process, and we ended up with Kuwanger in the US release.

That is awesome

Back when impressing your friends was all the reason you needed to challenge the greatness of Chill Penguin.

I love stuff like this. I have a whole notebook from grade school where I copied stuff out of other kids' Nintendo Power magazines.

Cranking through Mega Man X2 today (hooray for having Presidents Day off) and yeah... I still love it more than MMX.

1, I love the mid-air dash. It makes the game so much faster and even more fun. It's like MMX crossed with Sparkster. I so wish this was in the first game.

2, I love the arm cannon upgrade. So, so satisfying to blast the hell out of stuff. The huge sound it makes is awesome, especially the over-charged sound effect when you haven't shot the 2nd wave yet.

3, people have said otherwise in this thread, but to me MMX2 is a bit tougher because it makes you be just a bit more precise with your jumping, especially to get certain subtanks and heart tanks. To me that's what the Mega Man series is all about.

However, the level design in MMX2 is kind of a letdown -- it's definitely better in MMX. Wire Sponge and Bubble Crab in particular are really dull.

4, The boss fights are also mercifully a bit tougher. Overdrive Ostrich (who I start with with the regular arm cannon) always puts up a good fight IMO, thanks to that damn kick move he does that sends me flying across the screen. I really enjoy the Wheel Gator boss fight too because it makes you be patient and precise.

Bubble Crab on the other hand... wow, dude. You suck. And poor Flame Stag. His weakness is bubbles?? How humiliating.

Gunstar mentioned the X-Hunters earlier -- seems like a cool idea, but implemented in such a clumsy way. They suck for the most part anyway, especially Agile. No wonder that guy's stuck in middle management. So much easier to just skip all that stuff anyway. Sorry, Zero.

Still have the Sigma stuff to go yet.

1) Most people like the original Mega Man 3 over Mega Man 2 because of the addition of the slide. I like Mega Man X2 over Mega Man X for the same reason (the mid air dash). So fucking awesome.

2) I think the 2 shot arm cannon upgrade is pretty neat myself.

3) I've already mentioned how I feel about the difficulty earlier in the thread. As for the level design....I dunno. There might be more uniquely awesome levels in MMX (airport level is pretty neat, a tower one, etc.), but since I, like probably 95% of people that play MMX, play Chill Penguin before Flame Mammoth, I never get to see Flame Mammoth's stage in it's original form (I've only done it maybe twice), but in it's frozen form it's.......really boring. The most boring stage in the entire game. Yawn. Actually it's the most boring between X and X2 (imo). And Spark Mandrill's stage's only saving grace is the lights going on and off at certain points (which is neat and adds to the strategy of getting through an otherwise ok stage). Otherwise, Magna Centipede's stage is a better version of Spark Mandrill's stage.

4) I actually like the implementation of the X-Hunters in MMX2. Plus it adds difficulty when you first fight them. I also like how they change up their appearance and their attacks the 2nd time you face them (to counteract how you get more powered up and have more weapons to use as well).

You mentioned how patient you have to be to fight Wheel Gator in MMX2 which I do like, but oddly enough, that's what I HATED about the last Sigma battle in MMX. I'm sure nobody agrees with me on that but I don't care. The last Sigma battle in MMX2 was way more fun to actually play than in MMX, despite the difficulty difference.

Having beaten Brain Lord, I've done one of those rare things where I manage to successfully return to an RPG after a hiatus. I'm now back to playing my Live A Live reproduction cartridge after having put it down for six months. Thankfully due to the episodic content of the story, this is a much easier RPG to return to.

Hmm, could be better; but on my part. I mean, I have been neglecting my SNES. I need to play it more :?

Edit: Oh, just noticed I hit over 500, yay!

Thinking of buying robotrek. The robot fighting seems interesting & a bit "pokemon-like." How is it?

... Bonez, Popo... know one of you guys has played it :D

I played it as a kid. Got about halfway through and quit. Wasn't in love with it.

Our lone Greek member here adores it tho.

Interesting... $35 entry fee which is cheap for a SNES RPG lol. I might try it out.
