Damn I had no idea these WEGA televisions were so popular among retro gamers. I honestly hadn't even heard of them until I joined this website.

I got one at Goodwill for a little over $20 a couple of months ago, simply because it was in good shape and looked nice. Every console I've played on it (Wii, SNES, PC Engine Duo, Dreamcast, PS2, GameCube) looks absolutely fantastic.

As a result it made all SD content look perfect along with all HD content. Also i think it was the highest resolution consumer television released, if not now then at the time. Me and Mod_Man saw one on craigslist a while back when I was searching for a TV, but sadly we never jumped on it.

Are you saying this is a multi-sync TV that handles 240p natively (with or without scanlines)?

From what people on AVS forum told me, although CRT technology is capable of multisync it was never implemented on consumer HD CRTs, so all of them upconvert to 1080i, thereby breaking compatibility with light guns. They did mention that there are professional HD CRTs that are capable of true mulitsync.

The HD CRT WEGA does seem to "Double Line" the resolution. Even non hd broadcasts are cleaned up, you can see the difference in high contrast video such as animation. The black lines drawn around the cartoon characters are sharp. All the game consoles look great from NES Composite to PS1 SVideo to Wii Component.

Any WEGA owner should pick up a set of MCZ3001DB chips while they are available and inexpensive. Sometimes the power detection chips fail, if you can solder it can be fixed. Lightguns that read the screen do not work on a HD CRT, but the Wii with motion controls fills in for House of the Dead.

I have a 37" Trinitron that I love to death, flat screen. I love it to death, had it for about 2 years now after hearing so many good things about them for retro gaming.

Though while it is a great CRT... I bit the RGB bug and ended up working on converting my systems to RGB output. Now days I use a NEC XM29+ RGB monitor for my main retro gaming CRT, and then my Trinitron is only used for my Wii and for DVD watching. (Setting up an NTSC Wii for RGB is too annoying, so I leave it in component through my Trinitron).

Picked up another KV27FS13 for $20 tonight, w/ remote.

I have no doubt about what CRTgamer (thank you! btw) says about the higher end, later models...but I'm happy I found another WEGA CRT with the manual 16:9 option.

This model eats up 2d fighters and retro compilations...and shmups like Einhander or Raiden Project are simply awesome on this display.

That is about as solid as you can get for evidence that no one should be using an HD or HiScan TV for old consoles. The lack of scanlines alone should be enough to convince anyone.

Agreed. I still maintain the best possible TV to seek out is Sony Wega KV-xxFV310 followed closely by the KV-xxFV300. The 310 having a slightly better picture, and having two component inputs, the most of any SD TV I have ever seen.

How can I de-interlace sony Wega tv? I've been playing around with sony wega settings and ps2. The reason is I noticed ps1 games on ps2 on component show scan lines. I've heard TVs were capable of doing 240p many years ago. ps1 games are set to 240p of course,.. it sets to 480i the scan lines show up. PS2 games look decent in 480i which doesn't show any visible of scan lines. I just want to figure out if there is a way to deinterlace mode (sony wega service manual) the tv to fix ps1 resolution quality.

I have opportunity to get a HD WEGA for free.

My only reservation, can I switch better 4:3 (black bars on side) to 16:9 like I can on my Sony Bravia LCD?
