I would say that there is only one genre that gets hurt the most by walkthroughs. Puzzle games. It really, really takes a lot to make me use a guide for a puzzle game. Granted, this makes PC adventure games pretty challenging, but it's worth it. When people say those old Lucasarts games are unbeatable without a guide, I get a smug little smile knowing that I've beaten Full Throttle, Monkey Island 2, Curse of Monkey Island, and Day of the Tentacle without guides

The fantastic feeling you get when you solve a puzzle in those games is a big reason why I even play them, aside from the entertaining stories. If you use a guide, you're ruined 50% of the game and you're pretty much only playing for the funny stories. At which point, it's more like you're watching a cartoon than playing a game.

Totally agree! Which is why my recent playthrough of Cognition was so frustrating. I got to a puzzle, which I was sure I had the answer to ... and it didn't work! After an hour of trying everything I could think of, I gave up and looked up a walkthrough ... turns out I had the right answer all along and the game was glitched!

No, but do usually DL a world map. Really helps my patience.

I use them for the specific parts I get stuck on, after that I try to avoid them.
